About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Tax Director, Trusts & Estates to join a collaborative, people-focused public accounting firm. In this leadership role, you will partner with high‑net‑worth individuals and families to deliver thoughtful, comprehensive estate planning, trust taxation, and fiduciary compliance services. This position offers the opportunity to play a strategic role in client relationships, mentor team members, and contribute to a firm that values integrity, teamwork, and professional excellence.
Responsibilities
Direct and review the preparation of complex individual, fiduciary, estate, and gift tax returns.
Oversee compliance and reporting for family foundations and charitable entities, including the preparation and review of Forms 990, 990‑PF, and 990‑T.
Ensure adherence to multi‑state probate, inheritance, estate, and income tax regulations, coordinating filings across applicable jurisdictions.
Supervise the preparation of fiduciary accountings for estates, trusts, and guardianships to maintain accuracy, transparency, and accountability.
Conduct in‑depth research on federal and state tax laws, drafting technical memoranda and developing customized tax strategies for clients.
Provide strategic tax consulting and modeling, including multi‑year income, estate, gift, generation‑skipping transfer, and fiduciary tax projections.
Analyze and interpret estate planning and legal documents to ensure strategies align with client objectives and regulatory requirements.
Manage multiple client engagements simultaneously, cultivating strong, enduring relationships through exceptional client service.
Bi‑annual travel to Maryland for in‑person team meetings.
Lead, mentor, and develop team members by offering guidance, feedback, and opportunities for professional advancement.
Support business development initiatives through client networking, public speaking, and the creation of thought leadership content.
Qualifications
CPA REQUIRED.
10+ years of experience specializing in estates and trusts taxation and compliance.
Deep understanding of federal and multi‑state tax laws impacting estates, trusts, and high‑net‑worth individuals.
Proven ability to manage complex client engagements and deliver exceptional client service.
Strong leadership, analytical, and communication skills.
$180,000 - $220,000 a year
