Qualifications
Candidate must be a graduate of an accredited college or university and hold a proper Pennsylvania teacher certification for the position.
Master’s degree preferred.
Effective decision making skills are significant to the job, affecting a large segment of the organization, students, teachers, and parents.
Candidate must possess good moral character and demonstrate leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with pupils, teachers, and parents.
Major Function In cooperation with; and under the supervision of the Building Principal and District Administration, the Dean of Students will be responsible to assist in the smooth operation of the school, to collaborate with the principal, counselor, nurse, teachers, staff, students and families to ensure a safe environment conducive to learning through the implementation of both proactive strategies, as well as reactive discipline and support.
Essential Responsibilities
Assist in the coordination and implementation of school functions.
Maintain communication with parents, staff, and students on a regular basis.
Develop and maintain a positive school climate.
Provide, plan, and present professional development opportunities for staff.
Support extra-curricular activities and evening events.
Partner with school staff, community, agencies, and parents to serve students with special concerns.
Maintain knowledge of current technology to utilize in daily operations.
Support children's emotional and social development, encouraging understanding of others and positive self-concepts.
Counsel students regarding educational issues such as school adjustment, truancy, study habits, and planning for secondary school by employing effective and strategic measures.
Counsel students and parents / guardians to help students understand and overcome personal, social, or behavioral problems affecting their academic progress.
Mentor students in need of additional support/guidance
Mediate interpersonal problems between students.
Maintain and manage student discipline by administering, coordinating, or recommending disciplinary and corrective actions.
Communicate with teachers and other staff to develop appropriate interventions and supports that address the needs of individual students and resolve individual problems.
Maintain accurate student records and documentation, and meet timelines in regards to related administrative reports, and provide timely communications to parents, teachers and administrative team.
Provide or refer students for crisis intervention when appropriate.
Assist with lunchroom supervision and bus monitor/dismissal program.
Assist in developing school/community partnerships that serve as interventions or resources in the areas of mentoring, discipline and extra-curricular activities.
Terms of Employment Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the district’s approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be established by the District. Performance of the job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the School Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
