Job Summary The Economics Student Assistant will support faculty in the Economics Department through a variety of academic and administrative tasks. This role is designed to provide graduate students with professional experience in teaching support, research assistance, and departmental operations. The assistant will work closely with faculty to enhance instructional delivery, manage classroom logistics, and contribute to the overall functioning of the department.
Responsibilities
Faculty & Teaching Support (50%): assist faculty with grading assignments, quizzes, and exams; provide classroom coverage on occasion, including support for Friday exam makeup sessions; help prepare instructional materials such as slides, handouts, and case studies; support faculty in managing CourseDen (online learning platform) content and updates; assist with proctoring exams and monitoring classroom technology when needed.
Research Assistance (25%): conduct literature reviews and assist with data collection and analysis for faculty research projects; help prepare research summaries, presentations, and reports under faculty supervision; support faculty in organizing and maintaining research documentation.
Administrative & Logistical Support (25%): assist with scheduling and communications related to departmental activities; provide clerical support including copying, scanning, and organizing course materials; help coordinate departmental events, guest lectures, and student outreach efforts.
Qualifications Required Qualifications
Must be a current University of West Georgia student
Must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours
Must have a minimum GPA of 2.0
Enrollment and good standing in an academic program within the Richards College of Business
Possess strong computer skills (PowerPoint, Excel, Word)
Strong organizational and communication skills
Ability to work independently, manage time effectively
Professionalism and discretion in handling sensitive information
Meet the requirements to be eligible for employment in the US
Physical Requirements or Working Conditions
Work is predominantly performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards
Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally to move objects
Must have the ability to walk short distances, to deliver and pick up materials
Preferred Qualifications
Enrollment and good standing in a graduate program within the Richards College of Business
Prior experience in academic support or research
Familiarity with CourseDen or similar learning management systems
Interest in economics, teaching, or academic research
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Possess strong computer skills (PowerPoint, Excel, Word)

Ability to work independently, manage time effectively
