CYP Assistants work directly with children and youth, keeping them actively engaged, well-cared for, and safe while participating in the CYP. The CYP Assistant helps children develop social skills, make healthy choices, build self-help and school readiness skills, and explore the environment. Duties

The duties and responsibilities are grouped into categories: curriculum, indoor and outdoor environment, interactions and relationships, supervision of children and youth, parent and employee communication, assessment, compliance, and additional responsibilities. Curriculum:

Develops schedules and activity plans; implements activities and events that meet the needs of children and youth; prepares options for those with special requirements; demonstrates and leads planned activities; promotes safety, fitness, health, and nutrition practices; helps arrange for or serve snacks or meals where applicable. Indoor and Outdoor Environment:

Maintains indoor/outdoor activity areas and materials; sets up displays; inventories equipment; secures supplies and facilities. Interactions and Relationships:

Schedules a program environment that sustains interest and positive interactions with children, youth, and adults; uses approved guidance techniques. Supervision of Children and Youth:

Provides care and supervision in compliance with DoD, NAF components, and local policy; maintains control and safety; supervises activities and field trips; ensures departure with the authorized person; observes for illness or abuse and reports as required. Parent and Employee Communication:

Interacts professionally with staff and parents; provides daily feedback; participates in conferences. Assessment:

Observes development and plans accordingly; participates in program evaluation using designated tools. Compliance:

Assists in achieving and maintaining DoD certification and national accreditation; ensures compliance with laws and policies; notifies supervisor of concerns. Additional Responsibilities:

Collects and reports program participation data; performs other related duties as assigned. Requirements

Conditions of Employment:

Background checks, including fingerprint and DoD/installation checks; may include IRC and other security checks; compliance with DoDI 1402.05; probation may apply; Direct Deposit required; E-Verify used. A qualified candidate possesses the following: Entry Level (CY-1702-01): Ability to communicate effectively in English, orally and in writing. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Ability to complete DoN training within the specified timeframe. Ability to promote and foster effective working relationships with children, youth, and coworkers. Ability to work cooperatively as a team member. Intermediate Level (CY-1702-01): Knowledge of basic child and youth development principles. Ability to implement developmentally appropriate practices. Ability to interpret a curriculum or activity plan. Ability to follow written instructions. Ability to plan and organize and work cooperatively as a team. Six (6) months of experience working with children or youth in a CY setting. Target Level (CY-1702-02): Knowledge of development principles to inform program response. Skill to implement developmentally appropriate practices for direct care and education. Skill to promote working relationships with children, youth, and coworkers. Skill to work cooperatively as a team member. Skill in verbal communication to provide program information. One (1) year of experience working with children or youth in a CY setting. Education: Must provide a copy of HS Diploma, GED, or college transcripts when applying. Notes:

18+ years of age; some positions require Navy entry-level training or DoD credentials; a valid degree or DoD/DoE credentials may be required for higher levels. If your degree has not been awarded, provide HS diploma or equivalent with certificates of completion as applicable. Additional Information
