Ross Stores, Inc. is seeking an Area Supervisor to support the daily operations of a store and serve as the Manager on Duty when required. The Area Supervisor will oversee a designated area of the store, supervise associates, ensure the store environment is welcoming and secure, and carry out key operational processes.
General Purpose The Area Supervisor is a member of store leadership who opens and closes the store, manages the overall operations, maintains merchandising standards, and guarantees the safety and customer experience for all guests.
Essential Functions Maintaining Safe & Secure Environments
Practice safe behaviors and maintain a high level of awareness on the sales floor.
Immediately correct or report unsafe conditions or practices to store leadership.
Secure building entry/exit, monitor electronic article surveillance devices, and oversee cash office security.
Keep egress clear, ensure clutter removal, and manage customer safety incidents.
Test fire alarm systems as scheduled and respond to after‑hours alarms when requested.
Customer Service
Treat all customers, associates, and leaders with respect.
Demonstrate courtesy, friendliness, and professionalism at all times.
Recognize associates through company recognition programs.
Personal and Store Brand
Represent and support the company brand at all times.
Maintain a professional appearance and enforce the dress code.
Keep all store areas clean, well‑maintained, and merchandised to standard.
Carry out daily trash removal duties.
General Merchandising
Ensure recovery, sizing, and markdowns are completed to company standards.
Process all merchandise with urgency and receive inbound deliveries.
Maintain stockroom cleanliness and organization.
Assist with floor moves, promotional signing, re‑wraps, and back‑stock security.
Reduce loss due to damage.
Adhere to monthly presentation guidelines in assigned areas.
Loss Prevention
Follow the Loss Prevention Awareness Program and maintain a strong sales‑floor presence.
Guard confidential information, cash, and credit card data.
Maintain the Public View Monitor system and conduct “Code 50” package inspections.
Execute best practices to maximize productivity.
Front End Supervision and Operations
Train and coach associates on cash registers, shortage control, and front‑end procedures.
Control retail associate breaks and ensure equipment functions properly.
Maintain supplies and recovery for the front end.
Ensure items are processed & tagged for go‑back compliance.
Teach “Scan and Bag” best practice.
Fitting Rooms
Maintain cleanliness and audit fitting room garment tags.
Ensure go‑back compliance and proper processing of returned merchandise.
Administrative Duties as Assigned
Perform cash pulls, bank deposits, and payroll administration.
Follow refund, void, and register policies.
Other duties as assigned by the store manager.

Excellent verbal communication skills
Fluency in English
Prior customer service and supervisory experience preferred
Familiarity with point‑of‑sale equipment and applications
Basic mathematical calculation skills
Availability to work evenings and weekends
Physical Requirements / ADA Ability to use all store equipment, stand, walk, bend, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and lift up to 25 lbs; use janitorial equipment and rolling racks; occasional push, pull, and lift more than 25 lbs. Stockroom shifts may require more than 20 lbs.
Supervisory Responsibilities Retail associates and stockroom leads (where applicable).
