Job Responsibilities

Performs and supervises staff in administrative functions regarding engineering and correspondence. Assures that final plans and monthly pay estimates are completed and submitted under the approved SCDOT guidelines. Prepares cost estimates for new projects. Ensures that inspectors maintain up‑to‑date daily work reports and project checklists. Utilizes Microsoft Office, Site Manager, SCDOT Construction forms and other computer programs for proper documentation of construction activities. Supervises engineering and inspection duties performed by subordinates on roadway and bridge projects in Georgetown County. Monitors all construction activities on projects assigned to the unit to ensure that all specifications, plans and contracts are adhered to. Resolves problems as they arise regarding roadway and construction. Computes and compiles quantities involved in roadway and bridge construction. Performs inspection work in at least two or more specialized areas. Monitors contractors' compliance with all Federal and State regulations regarding erosion control and storm water pollution prevention. Ensures compliance with engineering design and plans and provides assistance to contractors in the preparation of erosion control and pollution prevention plans. Ensures that inspections are performed in accordance with SCDOT guidelines. Samples construction materials and makes routine field tests. Ensures that all required samples are obtained and submitted for testing. Operates all surveying equipment and performs surveying duties as needed. Ensures daytime and nighttime traffic control inspections are performed in accordance with SCDOT Guidelines. Assists the general public by addressing complaints and concerns related to road and bridge construction projects. Reviews engineering plans with property owners to identify potential impacts to their property, resolve conflicts, and discuss possible solutions. Assists in emergency and inclement weather operations, which may include being available for extended working hours or 12‑hour shifts. Minimum And Additional Requirements

A bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Science and Management and one (1) year of engineering or construction management work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve sitting or standing at a desk for extended periods of time. This position may require occasional travel. The position may require bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, and kneeling. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental‑related emergencies. This position may be exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions and noise. Non-Discrimination Statement
