Responsibilities

Manages day-to-day operations of the shipping and receiving team within the warehouse.

Develops and implements policies and procedures governing the receipt, storage, and distribution of materials, equipment, and/or supplies.

Supports the organization’s supply chain strategy through maintenance of appropriate inventory levels and timely distribution of goods.

Communicates job expectations and coaches warehouse employees.

Determines staffing levels and hours.

Verifies warehouse labor hours weekly. Approves warehouse employee vacation requests. Submits approved labor hours to payroll.

Arrange appropriate shipping methods for all orders from the parts sales department.

Identify areas of improvement in the warehouse.

Works with other departments to ensure timely receipt of parts needed for shipping.

Prepares bills of lading for shipments, ensures accuracy of items being shipped.

Works with Jerome Ave to get paperwork required for foreign shipments.

Traces lost shipments, initiates proof of delivery documents.

Files claims for lost or damaged freight.

Processes received purchase orders in ERP.

Investigates shipping/receiving discrepancies.

Occasionally lead or participate in groups to improve site KPIs.

Take a leading role in our initiative to ship to customers within 24 hours of receiving an order.

Ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks simultaneously.

Enforce and adhere to Astec safety rules and regulations.

Coordinate inbound/outbound logistics to ensure timely and accurate delivery of goods.

Select and manage carriers and freight forwarders.

Optimize shipping routes and methods to reduce costs.

Ensure compliance with domestic and international shipping regulations.

Monitor KPIs such as on-time delivery rate, freight cost per unit, and damage claims.

Manage unloading, inspection, and documentation of incoming materials.

Collaborate with procurement and inventory teams to resolve discrepancies.

Ensure proper storage and labeling of received items.

Maintain receiving logs and reconcile with purchase orders.

Develop and manage the return material process for defective or excess goods.

Coordinate with quality, customer service, and suppliers for return approvals.

Track and report on return trends and root causes.

Ensure proper documentation and disposition of returned items.

Minimize financial impact through efficient reverse logistics.

Develop and update SOPs for all logistics functions.

Qualifications

BS degree in logistics, supply chain management or business administration or equivalent experience or knowledge.

6+ years of experience required.

Experience operating forklift and loading/unloading trucks preferred.

Computer experience required, particularly the ability to use a mouse and locate and open/close program files. Must have knowledge of Epicor ERP system and Microsoft Office Suite. Must be dependable, dedicated to getting the job done correctly, and use time wisely.

Work Environment Manufacturing environment exposures include moving mechanical parts, machinery, tools and equipment, vibration, fumes or airborne particles, motorized vehicles, welding and machining operations, outside weather conditions and exposure to the risk of electric shock. The employee may occasionally be exposed to varying levels of dirt, dust, toxic or caustic chemicals, very warm and/or very chilly temperatures. Noise levels can be very loud at times consistent with an industrial assembly facility and may require hearing protection.
