The grade foreman is responsible and accountable to the operations manager. The grade foreman receives daily instructions and project assignments from the general superintendent. Basic function: Supervise and direct assigned crew in their activities to rough and fine grade earth and other sub-bases by cutting and filling to meet specifications in an efficient, safe, and satisfactory way. As a working foreman, one will continue to perform functions of crew construction while leading the team. Job duties: Perform all duties within the guidelines set forth in the policies and procedures manual. Create an atmosphere whereby subordinates are encouraged to improve their skills and maintain a high level of morale. Ensure that the crew starts working on time and works the scheduled hours. Assist the crew in using equipment safely and properly, improving job performance, controlling costs and quality of work, increasing productivity, improving communication, and maintaining good housekeeping on the project site. Participate in periodic evaluations of all assigned personnel, discussing their contributions, development, and possible pay adjustments. Supervise and direct the activities of personnel, instructing them in proper operation techniques, use, and maintenance of equipment. Ensure all new personnel receive proper orientation regarding company policies, safety, and job responsibilities. Develop cooperative working relationships with operations and project managers, superintendents, and other foremen. Cooperate with the human resources and risk management departments, ensuring compliance with EEO and safety responsibilities among all subordinates. Continuously evaluate cost, yields, material use, schedules, salaries, job assignments, equipment needs, personnel needs, safety, security, quality control, and address any issues or recommendations with the general superintendent. Ensure all work complies with local laws and ordinances related to construction activities. Maintain good relationships with the public, engineers, inspectors, and customers to facilitate project progress and promote a positive company image. Foster a courteous attitude among personnel towards these groups. Perform equipment inspections, request maintenance and repairs as needed. Prepare daily reports, verify accuracy, and transmit promptly to the general superintendent. Maintain a daily log of important conversations and events for future reference. Knowledge:

Use of mathematics, drawings, specifications, charts, tables, and measuring instruments. Experience:

Over one year and up to three years of experience in checking grade, earth materials, reading stakes, cutting slopes, ditches, and other rough and fine grade operations, including supervisory responsibilities. Equal Opportunity Employer, including disabled and veterans.
