The Supply Chain and Analytics (SCMA) department in the School of Business at Virginia Commonwealth University invites applicants for a pool of adjunct instructors. This pool will be used to fill teaching needs on an ongoing basis, and qualified applicants will be contacted for interviews as needs arise.

The department offers graduate and undergraduate courses in Operations Management, Global Supply Chain Management, Business Statistics, Analytics, Logistics, Procurement, and Quality Management, and other related topics. Courses are offered in a variety of modalities (in‑person, online, and hybrid), with a particular need for instructors to teach in‑person courses at VCU’s School of Business (Snead Hall, Richmond VA). Duties & Responsibilities

Meet all designated course instruction guidelines and contact hour requirements.

Respond to student inquiries, grade assignments, and provide feedback in a timely manner.

Hold office hours or individual appointments for students.

Submit midterm and final grades prior to university deadlines.

Work with other departmental faculty to ensure course alignment with current and past offerings.

Teaching methods will vary by course and instructor, but typically include some combination of lectures, hands‑on demonstrations, data analysis problems, case studies, exams, and/or student presentations.

Maintain a professional learning environment that fosters student success.

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree in business, statistics, supply chain management, operations management, operations research, or another related field from an accredited institution or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Proficiency with common office applications (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Ability to utilize online learning management systems (specifically, Canvas) for content delivery.

Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from various backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.

Availability and commitment to teach at the scheduled meeting times and in the designated instructional modalities for the assigned course(s).

Ability to work independently and meet instructional deadlines.

Compliant with Virginia regulations governing adjunct faculty workload, which currently limit individuals to a maximum of (a) 9 credit hours per fall semester, (b) 9 credit hours per spring semester, and (c) 6 credit hours per summer semester, across all Virginia institutions of higher education and inclusive of the credit hours associated with this appointment.

Preferred Qualifications

Terminal degree (PhD, DBA, etc.) in business, statistics, supply chain management, operations management, operations research, or another related field.

Prior experience in teaching course topics and using modalities relevant to the assigned course(s).

Experience developing or revising course materials, including cases, projects, or simulations.

Familiarity with textbooks and instructional materials commonly used for comparable courses or currently being used by the department.

Ability to integrate Artificial Intelligence tools (e.g., Microsoft Copilot) into course materials and assignments.

Evidence of teaching effectiveness (e.g., student evaluations, teaching awards, etc.).

Current or previous industry experience in a field related to the course(s) being taught.

Knowledge of one or more programs and programming languages used for statistical analysis (e.g., Stata, R, Python, etc.) or operations management (e.g., Arena, SimQuick, SCM Globe, etc.), depending on courses being taught.
