Business Development Formulation Chemist
Role Summary This position is responsible for evaluating innovative cleaning, conditioning, moisturizing and other technical solutions. This role creates competitive consumer product formulations and connects Research & Development with the market by turning technical insights into commercially viable products. The primary focus is on Personal Care and Household, Industrial & Institutional (HI&I) markets but not limited to these areas. Key responsibilities include generating essential data to support new product development, substantiate product claims, facilitate product registration, and address market applications.
Key Responsibilities
Create prototypes of Personal Care and HI&I products for market testing and launch.
Design studies to evaluate product performance and ingredient compatibility.
Gather and analyze research data to support new product development, registration, commercialization, and the creation of product specifications.
Document methods, materials, and results in lab notebooks; analyze and evaluate data; communicate and present findings when required.
Offer specialized knowledge and assistance required for technology transfer, registering products, and launching them commercially.
Help prepare and submit samples for industry and government testing, including documentation and protocols needed for new product studies.
Write technical data sheets, white papers, and trade journal articles, and support product marketing tools.
Offer technical and product support to Pilot suppliers and customers.
Participate in relevant trade and technical associations.
Able to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing tasks as needed.
Mentor and train junior employees on formulation science.
Ensure compliance with the Responsible Care Management System®.
Required Competencies
BS in Chemistry or related field plus five years of relevant product formulation experience.
Experience with Personal Care and/or HI&I formulation techniques and application testing.
Proven capability of effective collaboration with external partners for the identification and evaluation of emerging technologies.
Demonstrated successful teamwork with marketing and sales.
Advanced knowledge of surfactants and formulation components, such as:
Anionic, cationic, nonionic, and amphoteric surfactants and their synergistic blending
Surfactants from biobased and synthetic sources
Thickeners, pH adjusters, chelating agents, preservatives, humectants, conditioning agents, emollients, foam boosters, anti-foaming agents, solubilizers, colorants, fragrances in product formulations
Technical project leadership and decision making.
Preferred Competencies
Practical Knowledge of formulating biobased products.
Proven industry network.
External publications in technical and/or trade journals.
Industry and/or academic presentations.
Up to date with industry and consumer trends.
A working knowledge of the US and/or global regulatory requirements.
Design of Experiment.
Understanding of the Voice of the Customer.
