Overview
Water Reclamation Facility Operator IV (may under fill I, II, III) at Salt Lake City Corporation. Incumbent operates and maintains various wastewater treatment and pre-treatment equipment to meet permit and environmental requirements. This is a key position that requires advanced knowledge of wastewater treatment and may involve acting as the WRF Shift Supervisor or WRF Process Control Analyst as needed. Water Reclamation Facility Operator IV (may under fill I, II, III) Key Responsibilities
Operates wastewater treatment equipment and related systems (pumps, filters, digesters, aerators, screens, rag rakes, grit chambers, compressors, blowers, boilers, generators, chemical feed systems, basins, clarifiers, thickeners, methane gas systems, augers, and associated equipment) according to facility guidelines and procedures. Monitors control panels and system components; uses computers to input/retrieve data and trends status, adjusting parameters via SCADA as needed. Operates chemical feeding equipment, calculates dosages/flow rates, collects samples for laboratory analysis, and conducts process control tests (e.g., chlorine residual, DO) with adjustments per procedures. Assists with plant maintenance, repairs or installation work; handles chlorine safety and containment; disassembles/reassembles equipment for cleaning/inspection; performs wash-downs and cleaning; clears snow/ice from areas as needed. Operates heavy equipment (front-end loader, vactor trucks, forklifts) as assigned; assists in handling and transporting biosolids/materials related to wastewater treatment. Attends training, provides field coaching/training to staff, and supports Process Control Lab (PCL) training. Supports submittal of work orders via CMMS; ensures Preventive Maintenance tasks are completed safely and timely. Maintains facility security and monitors CCTV; liaises with authorities as needed. Uses Water Information Management Solutions (WIMS) to troubleshoot process issues and generate reports. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Water Reclamation Facility Operator I: ability to apply knowledge of math, chemistry, mechanics, and general science; ability to obtain/maintain a Grade II Wastewater Treatment Certification from the State of Utah within 18 months of hire. Desired Qualifications
Post-high school technical training in water or wastewater field; Utah Class B Commercial Driver’s License; Grade II Wastewater Treatment Operator Certification; six months of wastewater treatment operations/maintenance experience; working knowledge of chemistry, algebra, physics, mechanics; working knowledge of electrical and mechanical equipment as related to wastewater treatment. Operator II/III/IV Qualifications
Operator II: Six months’ experience and Grade II certification; Utah Class A or B CDL preferred. Operator III: Two years’ experience; Grade III certification; CDL preferred; must obtain Grade III within four years. Operator IV: Three years’ experience; Grade IV certification; must obtain Grade IV within six years; CDL preferred. All Levels — Required For All
High school diploma or equivalent; studies in math, chemistry, mechanics, and general science. Knowledge of wastewater treatment principles; ability to perform routine lab tests and calibrate/adjust equipment. Ability to perform occasional heavy lifting and to follow instructions; communicate effectively with team and supervisors. Ability to operate computerized process control systems and maintain records; valid driver’s license or Utah driving privilege card. Ability to wear respiratory protection devices. Working Conditions
