The Concessions Manager at University of Connecticut Athletics is responsible for the overall management and operation of assigned concessions stands and areas. This role requires a strong leader with a proven track record in high‑volume food and beverage operations, driving sales, and delivering exceptional customer service.
Compensation: $60,000‑$70,000 per year Benefits include health, dental, and vision insurance; 401(k) savings plan with matching; paid time off (vacation days, sick days, and 11 holidays).
Responsibilities
Oversee day‑to‑day operations of assigned concessions stands, ensuring efficient and effective service delivery during all events.
Develop and implement standard operating procedures, including opening/closing procedures, inventory management, and cash handling.
Monitor and manage inventory levels to ensure proper stock rotation and minimize waste.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment in all concessions areas, adhering to all health and safety regulations.
Manage point‑of‑sale systems and ensure accurate transaction processing.
Ensure compliance with all applicable health, safety, and liquor control regulations.
Recruit, train, and supervise concessions supervisors, cashiers, cooks, and support staff.
Schedule staff effectively to meet event demands and ensure adequate coverage.
Provide ongoing coaching and feedback to staff, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
Motivate and inspire the team to deliver exceptional customer service.
Maintain a high level of product knowledge, including food and beverage offerings.
Monitor product quality and presentation.
Monitor and manage concessions revenue and expenses to ensure profitability.
Implement strategies to maximize sales and minimize costs.
Conduct regular inventory audits and reconcile discrepancies.
Prepare and submit accurate financial reports.
Work with the Concessions Director to achieve sales goals.
Collaborate with event planners and other departments to ensure seamless execution of concessions operations for all events.
Coordinate concessions setup and breakdown for events.
Anticipate and address potential issues during events.
Work with vendors to ensure product delivery.
Qualifications
Associate’s Degree (A.A.) or greater in Culinary Management, Business Management, or related field.
Three to five years’ experience in Concessions Management, Food & Beverage Management, or a related field.
Degree requirement may be substituted for four or more years’ experience in Concessions Supervision or related position.
Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office, POS systems, and time‑keeping systems.
Experience training new employees and volunteers.
Advanced knowledge of inventory procedures and controls.
Experience ordering product for a high‑volume venue or facility.
Effective communication skills with employees, volunteers, management, and guests.
Ability to make sound business and operational decisions quickly under pressure.
Team‑oriented, fast‑paced, event‑driven work ethic.
Strong knowledge of all applicable sanitation requirements, food preparation guidelines, alcohol service policies, and safety standards.
Basic math skills for POS cash reconciliation and inventory.
Adherence to the highest standards of integrity, professionalism, ethics, and confidentiality.
Certification in nationally recognized food service sanitation training course preferred.
Certification in nationally recognized alcohol service training course preferred.
Demonstrated ability to build relationships with clients and deliver exceptional customer service.
