The Quality Control Manager will oversee all quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) functions for the injection molding production of HDPE pipe fittings. This role ensures that products meet ASTM, ISO, and customer specifications while maintaining compliance with company standards, safety regulations, and industry’s best practices. The QC Manager will lead a team of inspectors/technicians, manage quality systems, and work closely with production, engineering, and management to drive continuous improvement. Key Responsibilities

Quality Management & Compliance

Develop, implement, and maintain QC procedures specific to HDPE injection molding and pipe fitting manufacturing. Ensure compliance with relevant standards (e.g., ASTM F2620, ASTM D3350, AWWA, ISO 9001). Establish inspection and testing protocols for raw materials, in-process molding, and finished fittings to include testing resin for melt flow, carbon black, & moisture. Oversee dimensional inspections, mechanical testing (dimensional, compression, pressure, impact), and visual defect evaluations. Maintain calibration and accuracy of measuring equipment (CMM, calipers, gauges, pressure test rigs). Leadership & Team Development

Supervise QC inspectors, lab technicians, and auditors. Train and develop staff on quality procedures, defect detection, and documentation requirements. Promote a culture of quality, accountability, and continuous improvement across the plant. Lead the plant ISO 9001 initiative to include developing documented processes. Data & Reporting

Collect and analyze production quality data to identify trends, root causes, and areas for process improvement. Manage and maintain quality documentation including inspection reports, nonconformance records, CAPA (Corrective and Preventive Actions), and customer complaint logs. Report quality performance metrics (scrap rate, customer returns, defect trends) to senior management. Continuous Improvement & Problem Solving

Lead root cause analysis (RCA) and corrective action initiatives for defects such as warping, sink marks, flash, voids, or dimensional nonconformance. Partner with engineering to optimize mold design, process parameters, and tooling to improve product quality. Implement lean manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies to reduce defects and improve efficiency. Customer & Supplier Relations

Communicate quality requirements to suppliers of HDPE resin and additives. Manage incoming raw material inspections and certifications (MTRs, COAs). Work directly with customers on audits, specifications, and resolution of quality-related concerns. Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in related field (preferred). Equivalent experience considered. 2+ years of experience in quality control/quality assurance within plastic injection molding, preferably HDPE pipe fittings or related thermoplastics. Strong knowledge of industry standards (ASTM, AWWA, ISO). Experience with quality tools: CMM, SPC, FMEA, RCA, PPAP, CAPA. Familiarity with testing methods: tensile, compression, impact, hydrostatic pressure, dimensional verification. Proficiency in statistical software and Microsoft Office; experience with ERP/QMS systems preferred. Experience with IQMS production software a PLUS Leadership experience with ability to train and develop teams. Strong problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills. Key Competencies

This position operates in a manufacturing facility where employees are exposed to various environmental factors, including but not limited to noise, dust, odors, and temperature fluctuations. The role may require standing, walking, bending, and lifting for extended periods. Personal protective equipment (PPE) is provided and required in designated areas.
