The Scientific Computing Service Delivery Lead will provide leadership and oversight for the Scientific Computing task area, ensuring the efficient and effective delivery of OEB Infrastructure services. This role entails day-to-day management and oversight of work performed under the task order. Key Responsibilities
Scientific Computing Leadership: Assist with the planning, implementation, and supporting of NIAID in Process Maturity and Agile transition, including Agile Coaching, business process development at the team and organizational levels, and training team members in Agile and Lean concepts. Assist with analytical and functional support for new business processes and workflows to streamline delivery of OEB Services. Project Management: Assist with project management to ensure the efficient delivery of OEB Infrastructure services. Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure smooth project execution and resolve issues. Research and Development: Assist with the research and development of emerging HPC technologies to identify potential technologies to address NIAID's research needs. Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure effective implementation of new technologies. Reporting and Communication: Ensure timely and accurate reporting of Scientific Computing task area status and other relevant information. Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure smooth execution of responsibilities and resolve issues. Collaboration and Coordination: Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure smooth execution of responsibilities and resolve issues. Coordinate with team members to ensure effective management and delivery. Scientific Computing Task Area Oversight: Provide leadership and report on task area status to OEB leadership. Serve as point of contact for task area responsibilities. Report on technical outages (past 24 hours); reports are due Monday through Friday by 8:00 AM (excluding federal holidays and other government closure days). Scientific Instrumentation Support: Provide support for integration and operation of scientific instrumentation with NIAID’s IT environment. Assist instrumentation owners with selecting and evaluating new technologies for integration with the NIAID network; optimize instrumentation, performance tuning of IT resources, development of pipelines/workflows for data availability and protection; design and implement modern architectures to meet user needs and test emerging technologies. High Performance Computing (HPC): Develop, implement, and operate NIAID’s HPC environment, including clusters at multiple sites and cloud-based HPC. Manage day-to-day operations to ensure availability of compute, storage, interconnects, data transfer systems, and monitoring tools. Design and engineer new cluster capabilities and storage solutions aligned with user requirements. Research and Development of HPC Technologies: Identify and evaluate emerging HPC technologies to address NIAID’s research needs. Report on technical outages as described above. Salary Range: $160,000 - $190,000 Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Security, or a related field. Active Public Trust or higher security clearance. Minimum 10 years of relevant experience. Documented experience with scientific computing and project management; leadership and oversight including planning, implementation, and support of Agile transitions. Excellent communication and reporting skills with the ability to deliver timely and accurate reports. Strong collaboration and coordination skills with stakeholders and team members. Experience with R&D of emerging HPC technologies. Experience with scientific instrumentation and HPC technologies used by NIAID researchers; familiarity with biomedical research environments. Relevant certifications such as PMP, ITIL v4 Foundation, SAFe, CompTIA Security+, etc. Reside within the Washington DC Metro area; travel within the DC Metro area and CONUS as needed. Desired Skills
Experience with Project Management, Agile Coaching, Business Process Analysis, and Organizational Change Management. Experience with the technologies supporting scientific instrumentation and HPC in biomedical research settings. Familiarity with the HHS Enterprise Life Cycle (ELPC) methodology.
