Position Summary The Buyer is responsible for sourcing, quoting, and placing purchase orders to meet production and aftermarket sales demands for raw materials and fabricated parts. This role plays a key part in maintaining supply continuity, ensuring best value, and supporting Schwing’s high standards for quality and on-time delivery.
Essential Job Functions
Develop and maintain vendor agreements to ensure all logistical details from forecasting through payment are successfully executed.
Request and analyze RFQs; negotiate pricing, terms, and delivery for best total value.
Review purchase quantities and price breaks to maximize efficiency and minimize costs.
Monitor assigned SKUs for inventory replenishment and maintain accurate purchasing parameters (lead times, replenishment method, and primary vendor).
Issue purchase orders with correct material specifications and drawings.
Manage purchase orders for accuracy, delivery, and expedite as needed.
Utilize SAP and Microsoft Office tools to ensure timely receipt of goods and information.
Manage inbound materials and fabricated parts to achieve desired on-time and quality performance.
Collaborate with production and sales to address part shortages and implement corrective actions.
Maintain clear communication with Purchasing Management regarding vendor performance and potential supply risks.
Continuously identify and implement supply chain improvements.
Education, Skills, and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Supply Chain, or related field required.
Certification in Supply Chain Management preferred (e.g., APICS, ISM).
Minimum 5 years of purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment.
Strong analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office; SAP experience preferred.
Experience with fabrication sourcing, supplier qualification, and cost analysis.
Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement, and Just-In-Time methodologies.
Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Physical Demands
Perform stationary work approximately 90% of the time using a computer and office equipment.
Move about the office and production areas up to 10% of the time to access files, equipment, and communicate with colleagues.
