DESCRIPTION This position requires enthusiasm for data research, analysis and production of various maps, graphics and related data sets primarily utilizing GIS. As such, this position assists with the collection and tabulation of datasets, word processing and spreadsheet applications and preparation of map graphics in a multi‑task environment.
The ideal candidate will be self‑driven, intellectually curious, have strong writing skills, is committed to excellence, and possess a demonstrated knowledge and proficiency in the ESRI ArcGIS suite, and has knowledge and career interest in the principles, practices and trends in transportation planning.
This position follows a hybrid work model, combining both in‑office and remote work. Employees are expected to split their time between working onsite and from home, based on team needs and scheduling guidelines.
RESPONSIBILITIES Under the direction of transportation planners, essential job duties may include:
Assist in the preparation of complex multimodal rural/urban transportation projects, including state, local and/or regional long‑range area transportation plans; corridor studies; safety analysis; pedestrian/bicycle plans; transit feasibility studies, etc.
Collect, organize and report upon observational, spatial, traffic operations, and other transportation data from multiple matrices for projects, research, and public opinion surveys.
Prepare data and visualizations such as tables, charts, figures/maps, models, infographics, and 3D illustrations for the interpretation or presentation of data, analyses and findings.
Reconcile results of geospatial analysis to assist in the preparation of documentation, mapping and graphics.
Utilize the ESRI ArcGIS and Adobe suites in the production of various mapping and graphic applications.
Use travel demand modeling software and other transportation analysis tools to forecast and report future traffic volumes, levels of service, traffic operations, mode shift and origin/destination.
Assist with preparing, coordinating, and facilitating public and stakeholder involvement meeting materials and graphics in support of client project work.
Work closely and effectively communicate data needs, priorities and support matters with the Transportation Planning team.
Research and support various transportation related government regulations, standards and grant programs.
PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENT
Minimum four‑year degree in Planning, Engineering, Geography, GIS, or Environmental Sciences or related field of study is preferred.
1-3 years of related experience working directly in the transportation planning field, actively engaging in projects relating the preparation of various types of transportation plans and studies, transportation demand management, mobility planning, multimodal access, surface transportation, and funding.
Effective analytical skills and some prior experience with research techniques, local/regional geography, transportation networks, systems, and modalities.
Proficient oral and report writing skills. Expresses confidence and comfort in interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a technical and non‑technical audience.
Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instruction, work independently, and comply with company policies.
Experience with discipline‑specific software (i.e., CAD, ArcGIS, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch‑Up).
Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
Experience in using Adobe Creative Cloud (Acrobat, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) graphic design software and ESRI ArcGIS applications for geospatial analysis and map production.
COMPENSATION The approximate compensation range for this position $59,862.30 – $94,307.40 per year. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
