General Purpose The Area Supervisor is a member of Store Leadership responsible for a specific area of the store as well as general operations when serving as the Manager on Duty. Duties include opening and closing the store, supervising associates, maintaining a friendly shopping environment, ensuring proper merchandise presentation, and supervising company operational processes as needed.

Essential Functions Maintaining Safe & Secure Environments

Practice safe behaviors; safety is the number one priority.

Maintain a high level of sales‑floor awareness; correct or report unsafe conditions promptly.

Secure the building: entrance/exit control, electronic article surveillance checks, cash office security, armored carrier pick‑ups, and register area.

Remove clutter; ensure clear egress to emergency exits.

Ensure customer safety: accident prevention, reporting, and emergency procedures.

Test fire alarm systems as scheduled; respond to after‑hours alarms when requested.

Customer Service

Treat all customers, associates, and other leaders with respect.

Demonstrate courtesy, friendliness, and professionalism at all times; recognize associates through company programs.

Personal and Store Brand

Represent and support the company brand at all times.

Maintain a professional appearance in accordance with the dress code; enforce the dress code on all associates.

Keep all store areas clean, well‑maintained, and merchandised to standards.

Responsible for daily trash removal.

General Merchandising

Ensure recovery, sizing, and markdowns meet company standards through teaching, assigning tasks, and following up.

Responsible for receiving merchandise truck when needed.

Process all merchandise with a sense of urgency.

Handle non‑merchandise inbound deliveries (signs, supplies, special deliveries).

Maintain cleanliness and organization of all stockrooms.

Assist with delivery and placement of merchandise on the sales floor.

Secure and process back‑stock in accordance with policy.

Merchandise departments including back stock.

Reduce loss from damage.

Comply with monthly presentation guidelines for assigned area.

Handle floor moves and promotional signing as needed.

Conduct re‑wraps as required.

Loss Prevention

Understand and comply with the Loss Prevention Awareness Program; maintain a large customer‑service presence, customer and associate engagement, and heightened awareness.

Demonstrate integrity and honesty in all interactions; safeguard confidential information, cash, and merchandise.

Maintain the Public View Monitor system.

Conduct Code 50 package inspections.

Execute best practices, maximizing productivity by minimizing steps and touches.

Front End Supervision and Operations

Execute best practices and minimize steps, ensuring associates perform to standards.

Maintain pace, energy, and presence at the front end; manage lines to expedite customer wait times.

Train and coach associates on cash registers, shortage control policies, and other front‑end procedures.

Control retail associates’ break schedules for backups, lunches, and breaks.

Ensure all equipment works properly.

Maintain proper supplies and recovery for the front end.

Ensure go‑backs are expedited, scanned, security‑tagged, and ticketed.

Teach all associates the Scan‑and‑Bag best practice.

Ensure salability of merchandise on the front end, aisle tables, and specialty racks.

Fitting Rooms

Maintain cleanliness of the fitting rooms.

Audit and account for all garment tags according to company policy.

Ensure go‑back compliance; return, ticket, scan, nub, and security‑tag merchandise as needed.

Administrative Duties (as assigned by Store Manager)

Conduct cash pulls and bank deposits per company policy.

Control front end when needed; comply with refund approval, associate purchase approval, securing tills, cash in safe, register paid‑outs/ins, void approval, register media, and break schedules.

Handle payroll administration: daily punch edits, associate scheduling compliance, Sunday payroll transmission, and payroll reporting.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Special Skills Required

Excellent verbal communication skills.

Fluency in English.

Prior customer service and supervisory experience preferred.

Familiarity with point‑of‑sale equipment and applications.

Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations used in retail.

Ability to work evenings and weekends.

Physical Requirements / ADA

Use all store equipment, including PDTs, registers, and PC.

Stand, walk, and move within the store up to 100% of working time.

Regularly bend at the waist, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and stoop.

Occasionally push, pull, and lift more than 25 lbs.

Use janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders, and other supplies.

Certain assignments may require additional qualifications and skills (e.g., stockroom shifts). Supervisory responsibilities include retail associates and stockroom leads where applicable.

Compensation & Benefits The base pay range for this role is $16.50–$17.00/hr, depending on experience, skills, and location. Full‑time associates (Retail Associate, Area Supervisor, Assistant Store Manager, Store Manager) are eligible for extended benefits, including Medical/Dental/Vision/Health Insurance, Legal Insurance, vacation, flexible spending accounts, health savings accounts, life/ADD insurance, long‑term disability, enhanced maternity and parental leave, and vacation pay accrued at 10 days per year after eligibility. Associates also receive the company’s 9 personal and company holidays and optional performance‑based bonuses.
