Organization And Position Overview Lilly announced a $4.5 billion investment to create the Lilly Medicine Foundry (LMF), a new center for advanced manufacturing and drug development. The first-ever facility of its kind, combining research and manufacturing in a single location, to optimize manufacturing processes, increase capacity for clinical trial medicines, and reduce costs and environmental impact. The Sr. Manager, Utilities Engineering provides oversight and leadership to multiple utilities-related engineering personnel on the LMF campus. During the project phase, this role directly aligns with the Global Facilities Delivery (GFD) group in a cross-functional project team responsible for construction, commissioning, qualification, start-up and operational readiness of all utility-related systems. In day-to-day operations, this role drives operational efficiency, reliability and lifecycle management of all critical Bulk/Site Utilities at LMF, and leads continuous improvement initiatives and local capital investment for all critical utilities. Key Responsibilities Lead the Utilities Engineering group within the Facilities, Utilities, Maintenance and Engineering (FUME) organization by building deep technical engineering expertise in: HVAC; Gray Utilities; Clean Utilities; Electrical Distribution; Utilities and Environmental Controls (Tank Farm / Bulk Waste). Ensure compliance activities such as deviations, change controls and CAPAs are resolved and implemented with Operations, Process Engineering, Supply Chain EHS, and Quality Assurance. Ensure assigned systems and processes align with external regulations and Lilly Standards and Best Practices. Lead and participate in teams or groups to achieve departmental, site and company goals. Startup Phase (2025–2027) – Leadership Expectations Collaborate, be inclusive, and support the broader team to build the organization with capability, capacity and culture to support all utilities at the highest standards of operational excellence. Develop and implement systems and processes to operate and maintain critical infrastructure, leveraging Lilly knowledge and external learning. Ensure regulatory compliance and operational excellence by supporting lean principles. Support the project team as they deliver the facility, providing feedback and hands-on support. Daily Support Model performance and behaviors; coach and develop team members to close performance gaps. Oversee utility systems and trend KPIs to ensure critical systems operate efficiently and in compliance. Operate and maintain systems within controlled parameters; apply root cause analysis to equipment failures and guide issue resolution. Communicate clearly with internal customers on critical utility usage issues. Provide technical assistance to FUME staff and cross-functional partners (Operations, QA, Process Engineering). Prepare the department for inspections and drive corrective actions with partners such as Quality and HSE. Oversee Quality Management Systems (QMS) such as Trackwise and ensure CAPAs are implemented on time. Basic Requirements Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related technical field Minimum 5–7 years of manufacturing/operations and/or engineering experience, preferably in a GMP environment Previous supervisory experience of engineering personnel Ability to lead a technical team, make independent decisions, and influence cross-functional groups Ability to operate in a regulated industry and make risk-based compliance decisions Ability to foster teamwork within the department and demonstrate strong interpersonal skills Additional Preferences Experience with system start-up, equipment/process Commissioning & Qualification (C&Q) Experience with Building Management Systems (BMS) Understanding of facilities/utilities systems energy reduction techniques Engineering experience with manufacturing plant utilities Project management experience Experience with maintenance and CMMS Experience with deviation and change management systems including Trackwise Proficient with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and data historians; collaboration tools Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills Knowledge of cGMP Strong engineering fundamentals and ability to train and mentor others Other Information Initial location at Lilly Technology Center, Indianapolis. Our compensation and benefits information: Actual compensation depends on education, experience, and location. The anticipated wage for this position is $99,000 - $145,200. Full-time employees may be eligible for a company bonus and a comprehensive benefits program.
