Salary Planner I:

$27.57 - $33.51 Hourly / $2,205.60 - $2,680.80 Biweekly

Planner II:

$30.43 - $36.99 Hourly / $2,434.40 - $2,959.20 Biweekly

Position Description Under the direction of the Planning Director, performs professional planning functions involving community planning, zoning and land use matters, gathering and analyzing data, preparing reports related to planning activities, projects, and/or programs of the County, and assisting with technical and administrative matters related to County planning. Provides information to the public regarding department functions and activities.

Responsibilities

Assists the general public, contractors, developers, Planning Commission, Board of Supervisors, and other agencies regarding planning ordinances and requirements.

Receives and processes plot plans, tract maps and parcel maps, use permit applications, general plan amendments and re-zonings, etc., ensuring completeness, accuracy and compliance with County regulations.

Reviews and approves lot line adjustments, plot plans, etc.

Prepares environmental analyses for review of permits or applications subject to California Environmental Quality Act.

Reviews and conducts special studies and analyses related to planning projects, programs and operations.

Qualifications Planner I

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree with major coursework in planning, public administration, architecture, geography or a related field.

One (1) year of professional experience in public sector planning experience or related work in urban planning encompassing current planning activities is preferred.

Planner II

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree with major coursework in planning, public administration, architecture, geography or a related field.

Three (3) years of professional experience in public sector planning experience or related work in urban planning encompassing advanced and/or current planning activities is preferred.

Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.

License and Special Requirements

Requires possession a valid California driver's license.

Recruitment The Department is currently recruiting for one (1) vacancy. Additionally, Tehama County is establishing an eligibility list to fill future vacancies for a Planner I/II, as well as subsequent vacancies which occur during the life of the eligibility list.

Interviews and Application Interviews are tentatively scheduled for Thursday, December 11, 2025.

New employees should anticipate being hired at the beginning step of the salary range. Candidates who exceed entry level qualifications may be considered, with approval from the Board of Supervisors, for placement at other than A step.
