Purpose of the position Responsible for leading day-to-day manufacturing operations. Drive continuous improvement (CI) and professional manufacturing practices. Support meeting financial, business and leadership development goals. Lead and drive the manufacturing standards for the site. Nature and scope The Bethune Operations Manager reports to the North Augusta Operations Manager. Works closely with the Plant Management team to meet safety, quality, cost, plant utilization and OEE performance needs. Principal accountabilities Safety, Health and Environment Ensure all operations comply with site and legislative EHS standards. Act as the production champion of safe systems of work. Ensure all safety permits and work instructions are followed in manufacturing areas. Participate in Key Safe Procedure audits and coordinate resulting actions. Drive continuous improvement in housekeeping and champion 5S initiatives. Assist the EHS Manager in developing EHS policies and procedures. Champion a zero-injury culture among production teams. Production Management Provide line management for shift manufacturing teams, including performance and absence management. Manage day-to-day plant operations to meet productivity, quality and cost targets. Work with the Supply Chain Manager to ensure OTIF delivery and uninterrupted supply of production packaging and consumables. Collaborate with technical management to deliver key projects and provide site support. Develop operating procedures and working practices in line with safety legislation, business needs and quality standards. Develop and deliver individual and team development and succession plans. Ensure all staff are appropriately trained for their roles. Manage and report production-related KPIs. Lead investigations into OEE losses to drive improvements toward zero loss. Assemble weekly and monthly production plans with Sales to balance supply, demand and inventory. Maintenance/Engineering Interface with Maintenance and Engineering to ensure preventive and reactive maintenance and capital projects run smoothly. Act as production liaison for overhaul planning. Partner with Engineering on breakdown and root-cause analysis and implement corrective actions. Oversee operational aspects of plant overhauls (cleaning, shutdown, start-up). Quality Lead investigations of deviations with a focus on root cause. Champion continuous improvement and work with the Quality Manager to investigate customer complaints and other quality issues. Qualifications/Experience Takes responsibility and ownership of the manufacturing operation. A degree in business or engineering, or significant relevant industry experience. Hands-on with ability to drive improvement activities while maintaining a positive atmosphere. Experience managing teams in a manufacturing environment. Capability to drive cultural change within an organization. Effective communication and presentation skills; ability to influence at all levels from shop floor to senior management. Knowledge of Environment, Health and Safety regulations. Experience in an ISO 9001 registered operation. Strong focus on process and occupational safety. Competencies Coaching, mentoring and communication – able to coach across all levels; seen as a resource to the organization. Problem Solving – identifies and resolves problems timely; analyzes information; works well in group problem solving. Project Management – develops plans, coordinates projects, communicates progress, delivers on time and budget.
