Overview
Summary: Ensures welding work is safe and ready to function as part of the structure or device it is a part of. The QA/QC Inspector is expected to be fully conversant with welding processes such as MIG, TIG, arc, laser and butt with metals, including steel and aluminum for use on tubes, non-tubular bars, plates and tanks. This is accomplished by performing the following essential duties and responsibilities.
Responsibilities
Performs daily construction surveillance at project site, including welding, structural and civil inspections.
Observe and report construction progress.
Writes daily reports based on observations made.
Reports discrepancies to QA/QC Manager and Project Manager.
Coordinates code compliance inspections per client specifications and State laws.
Maps welds to be performed.
Flags welds for Non-Destructive Examination (NDE).
Performs NDE's when required.
Fully inspects all welds prior to and immediately after hydro.
Witness hydro of welded piping and/or vessel.
Effectively interfaces with client QA personnel.
Supervisory Responsibilities Indirectly supervises the work of welders in the Operations Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Austin Industrial's policies & procedures and applicable laws.

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Education and/or Experience - High school diploma or general education degree (GED); Associates Degree preferred and five years related experience as an inspector and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Five or more years experience with ASME B31.36 and ASME Sec VIII and NBIC AWS CWI. ASNT Level II in VT, MT and PT.
Language Skills - Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Mathematical Skills - Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Reasoning Ability - Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Computer Skills - Computer skills are not required for this position.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations - Depending on the job site, certain certificates or licenses may be required.
Other Skills and Abilities - For safety reasons, it is imperative that the employee be able to read and speak fluent English.
Other Qualifications - Extensive Knowledge In Metallurgy And Welding.
