Overview

Civil Service Title- Administrative Construction Project Manager (NM). Serves as a team leader and quality control engineer in the Bridge Inspection & Management unit of the Bureau of Maintenance, Inspection, and Operations. Under supervision, performs in-depth, routine, special, and emergency inspections using a variety of equipment and tools. Inspections include elevated structures over roadways, railroads, water, and tunnels in confined spaces. Uses equipment such as a bucket truck, man-lift, ladder, and snooper in all weather conditions. Prepares bridge condition sketches and reports per the accepted New York State bridge inspection standards. Identifies and prioritizes hazards. Prepares structural and safety flags with plans, drawings, and technical specifications. May drive an inspection van for fieldwork and may assist the Director of Bridge Inspection in related work. May require evenings, nights, and weekends. Location:

Responsibilities

Lead and perform bridge inspections and quality control tasks in field and office settings.

Prepare bridge condition sketches and comprehensive inspection reports according to NYS standards.

Identify hazards, prioritize safety concerns, and develop related plans and specifications.

Manage fieldwork logistics, including operating and driving an inspection vehicle and coordinating with the Director as needed.

Work evenings, nights, and weekends if required; perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications At least six years of full-time satisfactory experience in construction management work on capital projects, each with a value of at least $15,000, including at least eighteen months in a managerial or consultative capacity in a construction-management organization; plus a combination of the following to total ten years of education and experience:

Full-time satisfactory experience in construction inspection on capital projects, each with a value of at least $15,000. One year of acceptable experience may be credited for each year of construction inspection work up to four years.

Full-time satisfactory experience in building construction as a journeyperson in one or more skilled trades. One year of acceptable experience may be credited for each year up to four years.

Education in an accredited college leading to a bachelor’s degree in architecture, landscape architecture, civil (including structural and bridge design), electrical, mechanical, or sanitary engineering; credits are granted at 30 credits per year of acceptable experience up to four years.

A New York State license as a professional engineer or registered architect, or a license from a reciprocal state, may substitute for the education/experience requirements described above. However, candidates must have at least six years of construction management experience, including at least eighteen months in a managerial role.

License Requirements Possession of a Motor Vehicle Driver License valid in New York State; license must be maintained for duration of appointment.

Preferred Skills

Ability to perform inspections in all weather conditions, including nights and weekends.

Strong background in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office.

Ability to drive a city-owned vehicle.

Preference for NYS PE license with a Civil Engineering degree.
