Role Summary The Foreman position is responsible for overseeing the construction, maintenance and operation of electrical systems to ensure assigned projects are completed in accordance with design, budget, and schedule. This role includes knowing and adhering to company policies and processes, proper care and utilization of equipment, and on-the-job training of crew members.
Key Responsibilities
Provide leadership and direction to crews to ensure safe, efficient, and quality operations. Ensure crew adherence to safety policies and guidelines.
Oversee overhead and underground distribution construction, maintenance, troubleshooting and operations, including extensive switching experience.
Install, troubleshoot, replace and/or remove common distribution equipment such as transformers, capacitors, regulators, reclosers, switches, GOABs, CT/PT metering, and underground switchgear.
Plan work including manpower, equipment and material needs, and develop look-ahead schedules.
Ensure work progress, equipment, and sites are safe, specifications are met, and work is on schedule.
Ensure tools and materials are properly utilized, cared for, and secured daily.
Collaborate with General Foreman, crew members, and customers to optimize technology, techniques, and equipment usage.
Provide assistance to crew members with construction activities using hand tools or other equipment.
Ensure timely repairs to equipment and machinery to minimize delays and maintain safe equipment.
Provide on-the-job training and development of crew members in construction methods, equipment operation, safety procedures, and company policies.
Support General Foreman/Project Managers to meet company goals and objectives.
Assist with recruitment and classification of qualified applicants through the General Foreman.
Understand and adhere to all company policies and ensure crew compliance.
Maintain positive relationships with crew, customers and cultivate relationships with potential customers.
Complete required forms and documentation (e.g., Job Safety Analyses, driver logs, vehicle and tool inspections, timesheets, expense reports, incident reports).
Ensure inspections of tools and equipment are performed (gloves, blankets, line hoses, insulated booms, hot line sticks, etc.).
Must read and understand technical information, manuals, policies, work orders, blueprints, spec books, maps and diagrams.
Demonstrate planning/organizational skills and the ability to delegate work to schedule crew and ensure on-time completion.
Possess good mathematical skills to calculate figures and amounts.
Ability to respond to emergencies, hazardous conditions, multiple priorities, interruptions, and time constraints.
Strong communication skills to convey expectations and objectives to crew members.
Proven leadership to guide and train personnel in a safe, effective, and constructive manner.
Proficiency in English, both oral and written, for clear communication.
Dependability and trustworthiness.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
Minimum of 6 years' experience working on and around energized high-voltage primary electric lines.
Must possess a valid CDL-A license with clear driving record.
Nice-To-Haves
Completion of an apprentice program or technical training as a lineman.
Multiple years in a Journeyman Lineman classification.
Work Environment & Physical Demands Full-time role with long hours and weekend work. Travel for storm recovery may be required with variable duration based on workload. Work is performed at construction sites with exposure to extreme conditions, noise, and outdoor elements. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, walk over uneven terrain, and work from elevated positions is required.
Travel Weekly overnight travel; out-of-area and extended travel may be common depending on customer demand and outages. Availability to travel with short notice is required.
