Asphalt Plant Foreman
for our Wilmington Asphalt plant. The successful candidates will have one to three years experience with the techniques required for producing and manufacturing various designs of asphalt. JOB DUTIES & REQUIREMENTS: Create an atmosphere whereby subordinates are encouraged to improve their skill set and maintain a high level of morale for themselves and other employees. Ensure that the crew starts working on time and work the number of hours for which they are paid. Assist and direct crew in using equipment safely, improving job performance, controlling cost, improving quality of work, increasing productivity, and maintaining project housekeeping. Participate in the periodic evaluation of all assigned personnel, discussing their contributions to the company as well as their development. Supervise and direct the activities of assigned personnel in the performance of their duties, providing proper orientation, technique, use, and maintenance of equipment. Ensure all new personnel receive proper orientation regarding company policies, procedures, and safety requirements. Develop a cooperative working relationship with all operators, project managers, superintendents, and other foremen, while complying with the Human Resources and Risk Management departments regarding EEO and safety. Conduct continuous evaluations of cost/yields, materials, plans and schedules, salaries, promotions, job assignments, equipment needs, and quality control; communicate any issues to Operations Manager or Superintendent. Ensure all work complies with local laws, ordinances, and EPA regulations concerning the manufacture of asphalt materials and related activities. Maintain good working relationships with the general public, engineers, inspectors, and customers to facilitate job progress and promote a positive company image. Perform equipment inspections and request further maintenance or repairs as needed. Make and maintain all required reports, verifying their correctness and transmitting them promptly to Operations Manager or Superintendent. Perform other duties as assigned. Must have a valid driver's license with a positive driving history. Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen. KNOWLEDGE: This position requires thorough knowledge of asphalt, extensive computer skills, and the ability to use various precision measuring instruments. The foreman must have a working knowledge of mix design and quality control associated with this field. The foreman must be able to understand specifications and maintenance/repairs associated with supervisory responsibilities. PHYSICAL ACTIVITY: Position requires the ability to climb onto and into vehicles, stoop, kneel, crouch, lift, and grasp. It requires sitting, standing, and walking for sustained periods and long distances. The position requires the ability to express ideas verbally and to perceive sounds and receive detailed information through oral communications.
