Import and Export Specialist (Level 1, 2, 3)
Busch Vacuum Solutions is a leading manufacturer of vacuum pumps, compressors, and blowers for industries including semiconductor manufacturing, food processing, metallurgy, biomedical, and material handling. We are looking for a skilled Import and Export Specialist to join our headquarters in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
Position Summary The Import and Export Specialist tracks and manages all international shipments, ensures full compliance with global trade laws and regulations, and supports day‑to‑day operations. The role focuses on Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) classifications, liaison with customs brokers, and maintaining rigorous documentation. This position offers a three‑tier progression path for career growth.
Essential Functions
Monitor and update real‑time tracking for all international shipments.
Assist in preparing and reviewing shipping documents, including commercial invoices, HTS classifications, and customs paperwork.
Support FTZ documentation and record‑keeping processes.
Coordinate with customs brokers to ensure compliant and timely clearance.
Liaise with Purchasing to ensure on‑time delivery of shipments to the facility.
Maintain accurate internal records for audit and compliance purposes.
Independently manage import/export transactions, including FTZ admissions, withdrawals, and filings.
Ensure proper HTS classification of all imported/exported goods.
Interface with customs brokers and government agencies to resolve clearance issues.
Assist in internal and external audits related to import/export activity.
Support ongoing broker license preparation and training initiatives.
Lead and oversee the organization’s FTZ operations (if applicable) and ensure full regulatory compliance.
Supervise HTS classification strategies and ensure tariff accuracy across the product catalog.
Manage customs broker relationships and evaluate performance and compliance.
Serve as a subject matter expert on U.S. Customs regulations, FTZ compliance, and HTS rulings.
Guide trade optimization strategies and duty mitigation.
Lead or support preparation for CTPAT, internal audits, and government reviews.
Mentor junior specialists and provide in‑house training on FTZ, HTS, and licensing topics.
Position Qualifications
Strong understanding of international shipping and compliance workflows.
Effective communication with internal teams, brokers, and government agencies.
Accuracy in documentation and data management.
Familiarity with trade systems such as ACE, ACE, and FTZ software solutions.
Strategic leadership ability to drive long‑term operational efficiency.
Process optimization mindset with focus on warehouse and logistics best practices.
Stakeholder collaboration skills across cross‑functional teams.
Problem‑solving ability and proactive solution implementation.
Education Bachelor's Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field (preferred).
Experience
Level 1:
0–2 years in international logistics or trade compliance; basic knowledge of HTS and FTZ preferred.
Level 2:
3–5 years with direct experience in FTZ operations and HTS classification; solid understanding of customs brokerage processes and U.S. trade regulations.
Level 3:
6+ years in international trade, import/export, or compliance, including FTZ operations and HTS classification; active U.S. Customs Broker License required.
Computer Skills Proficient use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint). Prior experience with ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) and CRM (Customer Relationship Management) systems is a plus.
Certifications & Licenses
Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or higher – ASQ or equivalent.
Certified in Logistics, Transportation, and Distribution (CLTD) – APICS.
