Prevention Intervention Assistant (HQ) – One Year, 40 hrs/wk, Ends June 2026 PREVENTION / INTERVENTION ASSISTANT – HIGHLY QUALIFIED STATUS (HQ) Individuals selected into this position must be highly qualified. Applicants must possess a high school diploma or equivalent and have completed at least 48 semester hours of credit at an accredited college or university, an associate’s degree or higher, or passed the ParaPro Assessment with a score of at least 460.

Summary Description Under the general direction of the site administrators, the Prevention/Intervention Assistant will implement a prevention-intervention model to support youth and families to promote academic success and increase graduation rates. The model is a systems approach to help schools, parents, and youth identify truancy issues and create solutions.

Exemplary Duties / Responsibilities

Act as a child advocate promoting school attendance for all students.

Assist school administration in establishing a Community Support Team.

Schedule ongoing meetings to review caseload progress.

Consult with school personnel to identify students with irregular attendance.

Serve as a mentor to one or more students.

Collaborate with families, teachers, truancy officers, and law enforcement on intervention processes.

Consult with District Unity Support Coordinator and refer youth services.

Conduct home visits to identify reasons for insufficient attendance.

Collaborate with teachers and counselors to identify academically at‑risk students and provide MTSS support.

Provide follow‑up case management and ongoing support.

Develop youth prevention/empowerment clubs.

Participate in MTSS/Case Review meetings as needed.

Perform other tasks consistent with departmental goals.

Employment Standards – Required

High school diploma or equivalent; some college experience desirable.

Two (2) years of experience with students, parents, or community agencies.

Knowledge and Skills

Basic parenting skills, student at‑risk behavior, truancy, instructional practices, district functions, resources.

Basic interviewing, counseling, casework principles, investigative techniques, report writing, and record‑keeping.

Communication with families, education personnel, and agencies.

Awareness of cultural differences, confidentiality, and motivational techniques.

Preferred

Education: Completion of 30 semester or 45 quarter units in psychology, sociology, social work, human development, family studies, humanities, criminal justice, or related field.

Experience: Two (2) years with at‑risk students in an educational setting; consulting with families and community agencies.

Relevant investigative experience helpful.

Licenses / Certificates

– Possession of or ability to obtain a Nevada driver’s license with acceptable driving record.

Salary Grade 19 – Step A: $18.11, Step B: $21.83. Salaries are subject to adjustment each fiscal year. New employees are normally placed on the entry step.

Additional Job Information – 40 hrs/week, One‑year‑only, ends June 2026. Position is grant‑funded and contingent on continued funding. The hiring administrator may retain incumbent for the duration of the grant without re‑advertising.
