Counselor – Elementary (Long-Term Substitute)

Osseo Area Schools . This temporary position will serve students in PreK‑5 and support the district’s comprehensive guidance and counseling program.

Job Summary To inspire and prepare each scholar with the confidence, courage, and competence to achieve their dreams; contribute to community; and engage in a lifetime of learning.

Responsibilities and Tasks

Provide counseling services as a member of the guidance department staff to students in grades Pre‑K–5, meeting the special needs of the assigned caseload; consult with teachers, staff, and parents to enhance effectiveness in supporting students’ educational, personal, and socio‑emotional learning programs (Zones of Regulation, Restorative Justice/Circles, etc.).

Implement anti‑bullying programs (e.g., Second Step), support school‑wide behavior management, PBIS, and SEL programming; perform other duties assigned by principal.

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s Degree in Elementary Guidance and Counseling.

Licensed by MDE in Elementary Counseling.

Authorizes the district to complete an Out‑of‑Field Permission (OFP) request; meets Tier 1 PELSB guidelines.

Preferred Qualifications

Good written and oral communication skills.

Strong planning and organizational skills.

Skills and knowledge related to group and individual counseling and referral resources.

Knowledge and use of SEL, PBIS, and anti‑bullying curriculum planning and strategies.

Adapt to ongoing changes and demonstrate flexibility with students, staff, and families.
