Academic Tutoring at UVU seeks student tutors who will work one-on-one and with groups to help students navigate the challenges of their assigned courses and content material.
Academic Tutoring embraces the power of students helping students. It supports all individuals—regardless of identity, culture, point of view, or background—as they navigate the challenges associated with their educational goals. With a focus on major gateway courses, certified peer tutors work alongside each student to foster serious academic exploration and inspire lifelong learning.
Responsibilities
Tutor students (individually and in groups) by appointment and/or drop-in, in assigned courses and content material. On top of face-to-face tutoring, tutors may be assigned to the online tutoring lab or in other labs across campus. Participate in required tutor training and certification. Tutors are also expected to contribute to certain Academic Tutoring initiatives like conducting class visits, creating and updating handouts, designing workshops, and contributing to end of the year events. Qualifications
Must be a current UVU student Minimum 3.0 GPA Grade B or higher in MGMT 2340 Preferred Qualifications
Grade B or higher in MGMT 2400 and MGMT 3345 Grade B or higher in upper-division Business Management courses Demonstrates familiarity with other courses offered by the Woodbury School of Business Familiarity using R for statistical analysis Familiarity using SQL and Tableau Effective Tutors
Knowledgeable about a wide range of Business Management content Well-versed in study skills and strategies Creative problem solvers who can find new approaches to challenges Excellent communicators who can adapt their teaching for a variety of needs and backgrounds Reliable, has strong time and task-management skills Familiar with available student resources on campus Tutor Abilities
Collaborate with students to enhance their content knowledge Communicate complex ideas and concepts in a clear, concise, and friendly manner Read, write, and otherwise convey ideas in English Maintain confidentiality Cultivate professional relationships with staff, faculty, and students Contribute to the smooth operation of the tutoring labs Participate in ongoing trainings
