Overview

Maintenance Mechanic II G10 - Utility Operations (Facilities and Real Estate) – Johns Hopkins University. The role performs a wide range of general maintenance, including high voltage motors, repairs, maintenance and inspection of machines, mechanical equipment, and buildings. Tasks include plumbing, electrical, and air conditioning/heating systems, as well as painting and carpentry. Responsibilities

Repairs, adjusts, or replaces structural parts of buildings and office/lab furniture and equipment, including doors, windows, partitions, ceilings, floors, roofs, animal cages, cabinets, door checks, locking devices, and hinges. Performs plumbing tasks such as adjustment and repair of pipes and fixtures, valves, drains, grease traps, sump pumps, watering systems, and related equipment. May make minor adjustments to building controls. Performs rough carpentry work such as constructing wood forms, shipping boxes, protective sheds, staging platforms, flooring partitions, tables, benches, shelving, racks, and related structures. Prepares and applies paints on walls, ceilings, windows, doors, floors, woodwork, and other building components as needed. Repairs and maintains electrical systems, including switches, circuit breakers, outlets, and light fixtures. Performs routine maintenance to ensure machines run smoothly and building systems operate efficiently. Inspects drives, motors, belts; checks fluid levels, replaces filters, and performs other maintenance tasks. May provide guidance to less experienced workers in performing maintenance jobs. Keeps records of maintenance and repair work. Observes safety precautions and uses equipment properly to prevent harm and property damage. Maintains equipment and work area in a clean and orderly condition. May be required to be available for 24-hour calls. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications

High School diploma or GED. Five years of relevant experience in a specific trade (e.g., electrical, plumbing, HVAC). Valid driver’s license with a good driving record preferred. Advanced knowledge in mechanical drawing, electricity, woodworking, blueprint reading, science, and mathematics typically acquired from high school-level courses. Ability to demonstrate mechanical aptitude in a specified skill set. Ability to lift, carry, or move objects weighing up to 50 lbs. Ability to stand, walk, or move about campus on a continuous basis. Ability to ascend/descend ladders periodically for building maintenance. Ability to use a full range of craftsmen’s tools. Ability to drive a light truck may be required. Ability to read and write to read job orders, maintain records and schedules, etc. Ability to interact and work with faculty, students, staff, and visitors respectfully. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. This is a Bargaining Unit position. All newly hired employees in Bargaining Unit positions shall be considered probationary until completion of 90 calendar days of employment. The university will notify the employees’ union. Bargaining Unit employees become eligible for benefits upon completion of probation. Location and Status

Location: Homewood Campus. FLSA Status: Non-Exempt. Employee group: Casual / On Call. Schedule: varies. Salary and Benefits
