Overview AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support every data center, server, storage, networking, power, and cooling asset that keeps the cloud running. The Energy team is tasked with pioneering future data center utility power, developing strategies and projects that ensure low‑cost, reliable, and increasingly renewable energy supply across the Americas.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the development and execution of a comprehensive utilities strategy for AWS data centers in the AMER regions.

Manage multiple utilities, EPC and owner’s engineers to deliver MV and HV power infrastructure, including negotiations and contracting.

Develop and execute energy strategies that leverage capital projects (utility grid connections, high‑voltage substations, energy storage, etc.) to reduce long‑term energy costs; manage capital budgets for electrical infrastructure and energy projects.

Collaborate with the CFE/RE team to identify strategic energy sourcing opportunities.

Execute electricity supply contracts that create new clean energy capacity on the grid, reduce cost, minimize risk, and yield Amazon benefits.

Manage a portfolio of complex energy projects and store daily progress, risks, mitigations, and successes to C‑level and VP‑level leadership.

Collaborate with internal teams and regulated utilities on the implementation and management of energy projects to meet business timelines.

Identify and develop innovative cost‑saving projects (capital and operational) related to energy infrastructure and supply.

Complete due diligence on in‑market opportunities and transform them into cost savings for the business.

Work with utility regulators to develop policies and guidelines that enable broader AWS strategies and objectives.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business, or related technical field.

7+ years of experience in the utility/energy industry in a commercial/business development or technical role.

3+ years of power transaction or contracting experience in U.S. markets (e.g., PJM & MISO) performing financial models, analyzing rates, and negotiating interconnection agreements.

2+ years managing multiple multi‑million‑dollar power infrastructure contracts with external stakeholders to drive projects to completion.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s Degree (MBA) preferred.

Ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects requiring frequent communication, organization, time management, and problem‑solving skills.

Experience planning, engineering, developing, or constructing substations or other 34.5 kV or greater energy infrastructure.

Experience evaluating and implementing innovative infrastructure strategies within the energy sector, such as energy storage, demand response, fuel cells, etc.

Experience working directly with public utility commissions and other energy regulators.

Experience with IT infrastructure, data centers, and cloud services.

Compensation The base pay for this position ranges from $133,100 per year in the lowest geographic market up to $220,100 per year in the highest geographic market. Compensation is based on market location and may vary depending on experience and skill. Amazon is a total compensation company, and equity, sign‑on payments, and other benefits may be provided as part of the package.
