Job Summary The Junior Varsity (JV) Cheer Coach is responsible for organizing, coordinating, and promoting a comprehensive cheer program for the JV team. This position also provides active support to the Varsity Cheer Coach to ensure alignment of skills, routines, and program expectations across both teams. The JV Coach serves as a positive role model for student-athletes, fostering school spirit, teamwork, sportsmanship, and academic success. This position reports to the Director of Athletics.
Qualifications
MPCS staff and candidates with prior coaching experience preferred
Knowledge and background in cheerleading
Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills
Commitment to student safety, growth, and development
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Plan and conduct JV team practices that build foundational cheer skills, teamwork, and spirit.
Support the Varsity Cheer Coach by assisting with choreography, skill development, and game-day operations.
Serve as a mentor and bridge for JV athletes preparing to transition to the Varsity program.
Coordinate with the Varsity Cheer Coach to ensure consistency in routines, expectations, and safety protocols.
Assist with Varsity practices, performances, and competitions when needed.
Attend Varsity and JV games, events, and competitions as directed by the Athletic Director.
Encourage academic achievement and responsible behavior among student-athletes.
Promote sportsmanship, teamwork, and leadership both on and off the field.
Monitor athlete progress and provide feedback for growth.
Conduct organizational meetings and recruit student-athletes for JV cheer.
Assess players’ skills and assign team positions as appropriate.
Develop practice and performance schedules in collaboration with the Varsity Coach and Athletic Director.
Ensure compliance with school, division, and VHSL regulations.
Maintain high standards of safety and supervision at all times.
Physical Requirements Must have the ability to effectively communicate and interact with other staff and the public. Physical capability to effectively use and operate office equipment such as a computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. Some climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions may be required.
