Overview

This role is responsible for purchasing and negotiating materials, equipment, services, and supplies from suppliers. The Buyer assists departments in evaluating goods and services as needed, ensuring that internal customer expectations and requirements are met, and resolving conflicts concerning materials or services. The position requires familiarity with standard procurement concepts, practices, and procedures, and relies on experience and judgment to accomplish goals. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required, with strong attention to detail being critical. Key Responsibilities

Procurement Policy Compliance:

Follow corporate procurement guidelines and policies. Sourcing:

Support the development and execution of sourcing strategies by assisting in market research, supplier identification, and negotiation activities to ensure competitive pricing and favorable terms while maintaining quality standards. Supplier Management:

Identify, assess, and engage with potential suppliers, building and maintaining strong relationships while negotiating favorable terms and conditions. Market Analysis:

Stay informed about market trends, pricing fluctuations, and global factors affecting the materials supply chain, proactively addressing any potential disruptions. Cost Management:

Work to reduce procurement costs through negotiation, supplier evaluation, and cost analysis. Identify opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements. Quality Assurance:

Collaborate with operations and quality teams to ensure that purchased materials meet required standards and specifications. Compliance and Risk Management:

Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards. Identify and mitigate supply chain risks, such as geopolitical or environmental factors. Cross-Functional Collaboration:

Partner with production, engineering, and finance teams to align procurement strategies with organizational goals. Sustainability & ESG Considerations:

Incorporate sustainability and environmental factors into procurement decisions to support responsible and ethical sourcing. Technology Utilization:

Leverage procurement and supply chain tools (e.g., SAP, Power BI) to streamline processes, improve data accuracy, and enhance decision-making. Continuous Improvement:

Drive initiatives to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and increase the effectiveness of procurement and supply chain functions. Ethical and Legal Compliance:

Ensure all procurement activities adhere to ethical standards and legal requirements, including anti-corruption and anti-bribery policies. Other duties as assigned. Required Experience & Education

Bachelor’s degree in business or related field preferred (or 10+ years of equivalent experience in lieu of a degree). Minimum of 5+ years of procurement or purchasing experience. Experience with SAP and Power BI highly desirable. Background in industrial, mining, or chemical processing environments strongly preferred. Specialized Skills

Market Knowledge:

Strong understanding of materials markets (e.g., rare earths, industrial inputs), including supply/demand dynamics, pricing trends, and geopolitical factors. Industry Expertise:

Familiarity with challenges and regulations in heavy industry or mining operations, including environmental and sustainability practices. Supplier Relationship Management:

Skilled in building and maintaining supplier relationships, including negotiation, conflict resolution, and strategic collaboration. Capital Project Support:

Ability to contribute to purchasing and contracting strategies for capital projects. Supply Chain Risk Management:

Experience identifying and mitigating supply chain risks, including disruptions from transportation, global events, or natural disasters. Cost Analysis & Reduction:

Proficiency in cost-benefit analysis, procurement cost tracking, and implementing cost-saving initiatives. Data Analytics:

Strong skills in analyzing procurement data and leveraging technology platforms to optimize processes. Contract Negotiation:

Ability to negotiate favorable terms in supplier contracts covering pricing, delivery schedules, and quality standards. Project Management:

Capable of leading procurement projects from initiation to completion. Systems Proficiency:

Hands-on experience with SAP and procurement-related processes.
