Distribution System Operator – Oahu Join Hawaiian Electric as a Distribution System Operator at Honolulu, Oahu. This non‑exempt role focuses on timely outage response, system monitoring, and emergency switching to maintain reliable power distribution according to tariff requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Respond to customer outage calls and coordinate field personnel for single‑phase and three‑phase power restoration.

Operate and troubleshoot the distribution system in real time, prioritize resources, and manage routine and emergency work.

Use OT systems (SCADA, ADMS, OMS) to monitor alarms, control sub‑transmission and distribution devices, and maintain daily system records.

Act as the clearinghouse for outage status updates, estimate time of restoration (ETR), and communicate critical information with safety personnel.

Create, track, and close trouble tickets and work orders using OT systems.

Participate in emergency response drills and assist field personnel during system events.

Write and verify routine and emergency switching procedures and operate remote‑controlled devices.

Support shift supervisors by logging repairs, updating models, and coordinating control room personnel.

Essential Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent; advanced degree or certificate in General Trade, Electronics, or Automotive highly desirable.

Graduate of an Apprenticeship program, Technician, Substation, or completed Control Operator training.

Pass the SRA Oral & Written Directions Test, PSP System Operator/Dispatcher Test, and Company Job Sample Test.

Must qualify through the established selection process and hold a valid Hawaii driver’s license.

Ability to identify and distinguish color differences, including shades and hues.

Basic understanding of OT tools (OMS, SCADA, ADMS, GIS, Single‑Line Diagrams).

Additional Requirements

Available to work rotating shifts, including nights, holidays, weekends and overtime on a 24‑hour/7‑day basis.

Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to work collaboratively with field and control room teams.

Compensation $64.61 per hour, 7 days per week coverage, rotating shift schedule.
