Overview The Gas Foreman leads the crew to complete daily tasks related to the installation and repair of natural gas pipelines and/or joint trench utilities for power and telephone in a safe and correct manner. The position oversees crew safety and productivity, installs and pressure-tests both mainline and service line gas pipe, and completes routine safety inspections and documentation. This role oversees the Line team and collaborates with customers, senior management, and personnel from other departments.
Responsibilities
Oversee and coordinate crew work to install natural gas pipelines via open-cut or directional drill methods.
Obtain all necessary licenses, permits, and materials for each job.
Oversee, accomplish, and ensure all work quality related to each project and assume full responsibility for its standard and timeliness.
Coordinate and delegate daily tasks to crew members related to digging and placing product.
Gain entry to site buildings for work crew and call-in utilities located at each project site.
Facilitate daily toolbox talks and weekly safety inspections to ensure the crews work safely.
Complete all paperwork in a timely manner.
Train new hires and trainees to learn the trade.
Track employee hours and submit for payroll on a timely basis.
Call in utilities located at each project site.
Inspect existing utilities to ensure piping is correctly installed and fused, and that the job meets customer specifications and company quality standards.
Drive, haul, and/or operate equipment to/from job sites to assist crews in completion of work.
Keep the job(s) moving on time, clean up, and perform job restoration at the end of the job.
Communicate with customers and inspectors.
Perform other duties as required and/or assigned.
Qualifications Minimum
A High School Degree, or equivalent
A minimum of 3 years of experience with gas pipeline construction or maintenance, with 2 years of supervisory experience
Proficiency in fusing, tapping, pressure testing, and purging
CDL Class A license, or obtain one within 30 days of hire date
OSHA 10 Certification
Knowledge of gas and how to safely work with it
Ability to read and interpret customer specifications and prints
Proficiency in all phases of line construction
Ability to follow safety standards and procedures per MasTec and/or customer requirements
Ability to communicate with customers’ inspectors and provide good customer service
Experience operating heavy equipment and general construction
Ability to visually inspect fusion or welded joints, spot utilities, and locate marks on the ground by color
Vision: clear at 20 feet or more or within 20 inches, with ability to judge distance
Precise hand-eye coordination and color identification
Ability to work outdoors in extreme weather conditions
Preferred
Previous experience with Atmos Gas is preferred.
Physical Demands and Work Environment This job operates in a field environment. Requires extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting (up to 50 pounds), standing, and twisting. Working in inclement weather is common.
