Summary
New York Edge is seeking a passionate, knowledgeable, and mission-driven individual to serve as Program Manager of After-School Programs. In this full-time role, you will oversee the operation and success of 7-9 comprehensive after-school programs serving students in grades K–8 across the five boroughs. Responsibilities include ensuring contract compliance, implementing enrichment activities, and fostering strong school partnerships through active participation in school events. You will supervise and support Program Directors, collaborate with the NYE recruitment team to ensure all sites are fully staffed, schedule and coordinate program activities, and manage recordkeeping, reporting, and budgeting. The role also involves planning and organizing special and culminating events, ensuring participation in NYE-led organizational initiatives, and providing training and professional development to site staff. This position reports directly to the Borough Director of Program Operations.
Essential Job Functions
Staffing and Recruitment: Collaborate with Human Resources to support equitable and inclusive staff recruitment, reflect the diversity of the communities served.
Staff retention: implement performance management, mentorship, and recognition strategies to foster professional growth and accountability.
Monitor staffing levels across sites; anticipate hiring or coverage needs and address staffing challenges promptly.
Act as Acting Afterschool Program Director in the absence of the site leader, ensuring operations remain compliant with policies.
Branding and Internal Collaboration: Ensure branding elements are consistent with NYE and funder guidelines; collaborate with Development, Compliance, Data, Communications, and Finance to enhance efficiency and cross-functional work.
Training and Development: Provide training for Program Directors on recruitment, scheduling, staffing, program design, and NYE core philosophy; promote ongoing professional development; conduct risk management training; lead cultural competency training; conduct staff evaluations; develop engagement strategies; foster a respectful, safe workplace culture.
Compliance and Administrative Oversight: Review payroll timesheets; participate in leadership meetings; ensure site compliance with DYCD, DOE, and DOHMH regulations; oversee budgets and reimbursements; establish clear internal communication; lead incident responses; collaborate with funders and school leaders; ensure proper student supervision and authorized pick-ups; escalate significant concerns to Borough Directors as needed.
Program Design and Evaluation: Conduct site visits; collaborate to meet enrollment targets; design activities aligned with community needs and NYE standards; uphold best practices and funder requirements; develop cross-functional work plans.
Community Engagement and Visibility: Strengthen ties with school leadership; organize community events; engage families and community-based organizations; secure in-kind resources and additional funding; coordinate wraparound supports; provide data for Development team and grant proposals; perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required with preference in Education, Psychology, Youth Development, Human/Social Service, or Social Work
Minimum 5 years managing an after-school or summer program
3 to 5 years managing multi-site programs preferred
Minimum 3 years in urban education with supervisory experience
School Age Child Care License eligible or certified, preferred
