Materials Associate, Operating Room-Materials Management – Mount Sinai Hospital (Full‑time, Monday‑Friday, 08:00‑16:00) Job Description The Materials Associate for the OR conducts materials/product procurement and replenishment for all perioperative specialty areas.

Responsibilities

Manages shelf stock of all consumables used in the perioperative environment, including commodity and implantable products.

Places orders directly with vendors via appropriate computer applications.

Manages cycle counts, inventory balance adjustments and physical inventory count sheets.

Reviews implant logs daily to replace low‑quality, high‑unit‑cost implantables as they are used.

Maintains accurate item and vendor files in the purchasing system, updating key fields such as description, manufacturer, catalog number, price and inventory bin locations.

Provides cross‑training for all preoperative specialty areas (Cardiac, Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, Vascular, GU/Gyn, Plastics, Ophthalmology) to ensure trained staff during short staffing or vacancies.

Works with other support departments to ensure timely and appropriate supply and logistical services.

Responds immediately to all product and device recalls mandated by FDA, CDC, OSHA and other regulatory agencies.

Responds to manufacturer recalls by working with Nurse Managers and Nurse Coordinators to identify alternate sources of affected products.

Collaborates with nursing staff to identify par levels and supply locations, recommending process changes to ensure effective and efficient OR supply levels.

Other relevant duties as assigned.

Qualifications

HS/HED required; Associates degree preferred.

1‑2 years minimum experience in materials management.

Compensation Salary range: $29.21 – $31.31 hourly (actual salary depends on experience, education, and operational need).
