PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The Assistant Director will assist with supervising and training staff on best practices. The Assistant Director will be responsible for providing a program that will ensure the participants’ safety at all times and foster children’s social, physical, spiritual, and mental growth and adhere to YMCA program guidelines, Early Learning Standards, and DHS standards. The Assistant Director will maintain positive relationships with YMCA staff, school staff, and School Age participants. Essential Functions
Model the YMCA core values: Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility. Oversee the operation of a before/after school site, and support seasonal camp sites. Maintain all state and local policies and procedures; adhere to state licensing standards; conduct a licensing inspection at the site. Implement a daily curriculum that meets Early Learning Standards and direct staff and children in the daily activities outlined in weekly lesson plans. Keep up with calendars, and maintain daily record keeping including rosters. Actively teach in any classroom in the center as needed. Set up and take down program space so that area is transformed into a child-friendly environment; move, clean, and arrange furniture and equipment; leave space organized. Supervise staff including schedules, staff coverage, assist in training and developing assistant teachers and teachers. Attend all staff meetings and in-service training as required. Develop and maintain positive relationships with the community, including schools, churches, libraries; communicate with parents to meet DHS requirements; attend and/or conduct parent conferences. Maintain DHS child care licensing files for staff and children; ensure records are current and complete. Support communication and collection of balances with the child care billing services department. Assist in controlling and maintaining supplies and inventory on site. Maintain meal counts accurately. Participate in YMCA volunteer programs and the Annual Giving Campaign. Be mobile across the system for fill-in as needed. Work and support special events. Help facilitate training of part-time staff. Be available for some weekend work. Carry out special projects and perform office duties as assigned by program staff. Physical Demands
Follow state, federal, and YMCA guidelines, including immunizations, employment physical, and Health & Safety Training. Lift, move, or hold children weighing 10 to 40 pounds frequently (may exceed 40 pounds occasionally). Supervise and interact with children outdoors in varied weather conditions. Demonstrate full range of motion to lift, reach, squat, climb, sit, and participate in activities. Respond immediately to emergencies and maintain appropriate energy to perform essential job duties. Maintain a professional demeanor. Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Professional image with conflict resolution, sound judgment, and initiative. Highly organized with the ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks; maintain confidentiality. Flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends. Education/Experience
High school diploma or equivalent and four years of experience in child development or related field; OR two years of college with two years of related experience; OR a four-year degree with one year of related experience. Full-time (paid or unpaid) experience in group settings and supervision preferred. Responds well to crisis situations; strong organizational skills; computer literacy; ability to handle multiple tasks; sensitivity to families and staff; experience in inclusive environments and diverse populations. Proficiency in additional languages may be helpful. Certifications Required
New Hire Orientation training DHS requirements (Abuse Registry Check, proof of education, references, past employment verification, etc.) Pre-service training within 30 days of hire: CPR/First Aid/AED (Infant/Pediatric); must maintain annual requirements Information Security And Sensitivity
Position requires elevated security permissions for systems with sensitive information. Access to sensitive information; all system activity subject to audits. Protect and keep sensitive communications and information private; failure to comply may lead to disciplinary action including termination. Work Schedule
The full-time work schedule is generally Monday through Friday; evenings and weekends may be required seasonally. Flexible schedule required and may vary by site needs. Work Environment And Physical Demands
Climbing, sitting, standing, pushing, walking, kneeling, and stooping. Some outdoor exposure and exposure to electrical/mechanical elements and chemicals. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
