The Field Hockey Camp Head Coach is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction and guidance to camp participants, supporting their athletic development in a dynamic and inclusive camp environment. Working within the camp’s athletics program, this position plays a central role in implementing skill-building activities, fostering teamwork, and promoting a positive sportsmanship culture among young athletes. The coach will be expected to apply technical expertise, strategic knowledge of the game, and effective communication skills to create a safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate experience for players of varying skill levels.

This position operates under the supervision of the camp's athletics director and works collaboratively with other coaching staff to ensure a cohesive and well-structured program. As an on-site leader during active camp sessions, the Field Hockey Head Coach is considered essential staff due to their teaching responsibilities.

Duties/Responsibilities

Coaching and Instruction (75%)

Lead daily field hockey sessions focused on skill development, tactical understanding, and game play. Adapt coaching methods to suit a range of skill levels and age groups, ensuring all campers are engaged and progressing. Demonstrate proper techniques for passing, shooting, defending, and positioning through active instruction. Provide individual feedback and encouragement to foster improvement and confidence in athletes. Manage scrimmages and drills that promote teamwork, sportsmanship, and competitive spirit.

Program Planning and Implementation (20%)

Collaborate with camp leadership to design age-appropriate lesson plans and training activities. Assist in organizing game schedules, tournament formats, and special events within the camp program. Ensure that daily plans align with camp goals, safety protocols, and developmental benchmarks. Adjust sessions in real time based on weather, camper needs, or facility availability.

Camper Supervision and Safety (5%)

Supervise campers on and off the field to maintain a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment. Enforce safety guidelines and respond promptly to injuries or behavioral concerns. Communicate effectively with support staff, medical personnel, and parents as needed. Serve as a role model, promoting positive conduct and teamwork both during and outside of practices.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Acceptable Education & Experience:

Field hockey playing experience; College, Club or National Team Field hockey coaching experience; Club or college camp or clinic coaching, college coach, national team clinic, camp or tour coaching.
