Reporting directly to the Plant Manager, a Maintenance Manager is responsible for smooth plant operations on their designated shift, and for administrative and training duties related to their assigned team of IMRTs. The role involves performing maintenance tasks, focusing on proactive maintenance to support high quality, efficient, timely production and shipment of Sonoco products. Extreme attention to safety, quality, productivity and a strong work ethic are mandatory for success in this role.
Responsibilities
Creates, documents and performs strong Preventive/Predictive maintenance tasks/procedures to eliminate equipment breakdowns.
Troubleshoots equipment issues quickly and safely, implements corrective actions, communicates plan of action, and helps document new procedures.
Communicates effectively with operations personnel to identify and resolve abnormal or degraded equipment conditions that could impact safety, quality or productivity.
Participates in proactive maintenance activities such as FMEA’s, RCCA (Root Cause Corrective Action), and Analytical Troubleshooting (ATS).
Documents work with sufficient detail to capture strong historical data for future analysis.
Maintains housekeeping standards and applies location-specific principles to own areas.
Identifies and uses proper tools for each job and removes damaged tools from service.
Performs precision welding as required by the application.
Operates and maintains shop tools: lathes, drills, milling machines, etc.
Reads and understands mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic and electrical schematics.
Maintains mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, piping, electrical and robotic equipment, including lubrication principles and proper lubrication application.
Troubleshoots, repairs and improves reliability of equipment sub-systems.
Precision installs mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, piping, electrical and robotic equipment using OEM specifications.
Identifies opportunities to improve equipment inspection, lubrication and access areas for new or current equipment.
Understands overall equipment operation/function and applies it to maintenance, repair, troubleshooting and reliability.
Develops, modifies, reads, troubleshoots and installs PLC programs.
Installs/troubleshoots/repairs AC and DC drives/motors.
Fabricates and installs various electrical, piping, pneumatic and mechanical equipment.
Education & Competencies
Sonoco Electrical Safety Work Practices – Category 2
Strong communication skills
Strong troubleshooting skills
Strong proactive maintenance and reliability thought process
Associate’s degree in Mechatronics, Industrial Maintenance or related technical field
8+ years of manufacturing maintenance experience
