Akima This is a safety sensitive position. The Fire Captain will direct and coordinate the activities of an assigned shift, ensuring fire/EMS support for controlling and extinguishing fires, rescuing persons endangered by structural fires, reducing or eliminating potential fire hazards, and responding to medical aid calls, vehicle accidents, and HazMat incidents. The position is contingent upon contract award and is subject to the Company’s and the Client’s Industrial Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy, including pre-employment, post-accident, random, reasonable suspicion, return-to-duty, and follow-up testing. Responsibilities and qualifications are listed below, with requirements maintained as stated. Responsibilities
Supervises all subordinate personnel in their assigned duties. Provides effective leadership for all personnel necessary to carry out the Department’s mission. Maintains discipline and enforces department rules and regulations; renders corrective action per policy/procedures. Implements department goals, establishes work priorities, schedules, and coordinates work per shift. Responsible for daily log, emergency calls and reports, overtime, and injury reports. Responds to alarms as an officer of a firefighting company (shift); performs firefighting and EMS functions, including Incident Command Officer. Participates in daily training exercises and provides training for the department when assigned. Conducts fire inspections, supervises shift inspections, assigns work projects, and approves completed work. Participates in continuous quality improvement (CQI) programs. Conducts demonstrations and tours, and provides training/lectures on fire safety, fire prevention, CPR, fire extinguishers, first aid and related subjects. Stays up-to-date on latest Fire Department/EMS standards and evaluates possible implementation. Provides expertise in fire prevention, fire suppression, and fire investigation strategies. Ensures safe and effective command of incident operations. Assigns personnel and equipment to duties as required by the Department. Maintains cleanliness of the station and maintenance of apparatus, tools, equipment, and all Fire/EMS supplies. Performs routine Safety Specialist tasks such as hot work permitting, fresh air permitting, basic confined space entry permitting, HazMat escort, and other safety-related tasks. Performs other duties as required by superiors. Projects a positive attitude and image to the client as a fire service professional to meet client needs. Qualifications
Must have 7+ years of experience in this field. HS or GED. Must meet Emergency Services Certification Program (F&ESCP) standards. Fire Officer II. Fire Inspector I. Firefighter II. Driver Operator.
