Job Overview
The BOM Analyst is responsible for the creation, management, and accuracy of complex Bills of Materials (BOMs) used in the design, production, and service of products. This role is critical in ensuring data integrity within ERP and PLM systems, driving cross‑functional collaboration, and supporting engineering changes, cost reduction efforts, and product lifecycle management.
Key Responsibilities
Create, manage, and maintain accurate multi‑level BOMs for new and existing products.
Ensure BOMs align with engineering drawings, CAD models, and manufacturing requirements.
Support engineering change orders (ECOs), manage revision control, and ensure timely implementation in ERP/PLM systems.
Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) on BOM‑related processes, tools, and data management standards.
Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, procurement, and quality to resolve discrepancies or clarify BOM‑related questions.
Identify and drive improvements in BOM structure, standardization, and reusability across product families.
Analyze part usage for VAVE initiatives, cost‑saving opportunities, and risk due to component obsolescence.
Train and mentor BOM support personnel on best practices and company standards.
Generate and maintain documentation such as BOM templates, SOPs, and audit checklists.
Support new product introductions (NPIs) and continuous improvement initiatives by ensuring timely and complete BOM readiness.
Monitor and report on BOM KPIs (accuracy, timeliness of change implementation, standardization metrics).
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Business, or a related field.
5‑8+ years of experience working with complex BOMs in a manufacturing environment.
Experience with ERP and PLM systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, JDE, PTC Windchill).
Skills
Deep understanding of product structures, part numbering systems, and revision control.
Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
Excellent attention to detail, organizational, and time‑management skills.
Proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, lookups) and data visualization/reporting tools.
Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively across departments and with global teams.
Preferred
Experience with discrete manufacturing environments (e.g., electronics, aerospace, industrial machinery).
Familiarity with lean manufacturing, VAVE, or Six Sigma principles.
Working Conditions
Primarily office‑based with regular interaction with manufacturing floor and engineering departments.
