JOB SUMMARY
Works with contractors, drivers, attendants, and school personnel to ensure safe and efficient school bus operations to include student and personnel management. Prepares required forms or reports as designated.
Additional Work Days/Hours Based on the assignment, the following additional work days and/or hours may be required as needed: Ability to work flexible schedules Emergencies Extended hours Inclement weather conditions Outside of normal business hours Overtime as needed Summer hours
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES Oversees daily pre-route safety inspections as required. Operates a school vehicle in a safe and prudent manner, obeying all State and local traffic laws and Transportation Division regulations in order to assist other drivers. Assists drivers with student discipline and related issues including appropriate follow-up with school administrators, parents, staff, and other personnel as required. Performs onboard observations of school bus operations. Attends in-service meetings and workshops as established by the Transportation Division. Presents safety programs for kindergarten students. Reports accidents and complete required paper work Augments driver and aid routes as needed Works with special need students. Assists Transportation Specialist with other duties as assigned Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education High School Diploma or Equivalency Certificate required. Experience Five (5) years actual driving experience during which time a valid operator’s license and certification was held to operate a school vehicle in Maryland required. Three (3) years consecutive experience driving a school bus required. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics Ability to exercise considerable patience to assist personnel in difficult situations. Demonstrated ability to effectively deal with employees, the staff, and the public. Ability to effectively communicate and write. Demonstrated ability to effectively work and communicate with diverse populations. Ability to employ business technology tools (e.g. e-mail, AACPS Intranet, electronic benefits enrollment tool, Microsoft Office Suite, etc.). Licenses and Certifications Employee must retain active licenses, certifications, and enrollment as a condition of employment. Upon hire, First Aid Certification issued by American Heart Association, Inc (AHA) or American Red Cross authorized training centers required. Upon hire, Bus Attendant Physical Exam (Annual) issued by Concentra Occupational Health required. Within 1 year, obtain Driver Training Certification issued by Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) required. Upon hire, Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B with Passenger Transport (P) and School Bus Authorized (S) endorsement (Maryland) issued by Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration (MDOT MVA) required. Hold or be eligible for Driver's License (DL) Class C Non-Commercial issued by Maryland or State of Legal Residence (MVA/DMV) required; and Daily access to reliable transportation.
