Bollinger Shipyards
Bollinger Shipyards is seeking a Buyer to support the acquisition of goods and services required for the construction and maintenance of vessels, facilities, and administrative functions. This role involves purchasing, vendor negotiations, bid evaluation, and order tracking to ensure materials and services are available on time, within budget, and in compliance with quality and delivery standards.
Overview The Buyer is responsible for managing the procurement process from requisition to purchase order, supplier selection, and delivery coordination to support shipbuilding and related operations.
Responsibilities
Respond to purchase requests for maintenance, repair, office supplies, and project-related needs.
Generate purchase orders for handwritten and system-based requisitions using the company’s procurement system.
Produce receiving reports for service-related POs.
Identify and evaluate potential suppliers and solicit bids.
Review supplier proposals for accuracy and completeness.
Negotiate pricing, payment terms, and delivery schedules within budgetary constraints.
Work with the BOS Risk team to add new suppliers to the Approved Vendor List (AVL).
Ensure timely acknowledgment and acceptance of POs by suppliers.
Collaborate with receiving, warehouse, and logistics teams for timely material deliveries and returns.
Assist with Oracle training at other company locations.
Monitor supplier performance and expedite deliveries as necessary.
Maintain accurate procurement documentation (manual and digital).
Manage warranty claims for facility materials and equipment.
Approve vendor invoices for payment when needed.
Liaise with internal teams to understand material requirements and resolve procurement-related issues.
Facilitate and attend supplier meetings to resolve problems and explore standardization opportunities.
Qualifications
Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in purchasing, supply chain management, or a related field.
Skills and Abilities
Familiarity with materials used in shipbuilding and repair.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Team-oriented with excellent organizational abilities.
Experience with Oracle or similar ERP systems is a plus.
