Position: Case Manager for Older Refugees
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world's worst humanitarian crises, helping to restore health, safety, education, economic wellbeing, and power to people devastated by conflict and disaster. The goal of the Services for Older Refugees (SOR) program is to support increased integration and independent living for older humanitarian migrants. This role involves providing case management, facilitating classroom activities such as citizenship preparation, English classes, and digital literacy, and helping older populations access community resources and services.
Responsibilities:
Perform comprehensive case management, including initial assessments, referrals, and tracking progress.
Assist older ORR-eligible populations in accessing community aging services, including supportive services, nutrition, elder abuse prevention, and intergenerational activities.
Document client interactions according to program requirements.
Input and maintain client data in databases, supporting tracking and reporting.
Build and sustain relationships with local service providers.
Create opportunities for older refugees to live independently and connect with their communities.
Support older refugees in applying for public benefits like social security, housing, Medicaid, SNAP, and cash assistance.
Refer clients to civics, English, and immigration classes to support citizenship pathways.
Use personal and public transportation to travel and transport clients and materials.
Train and supervise volunteers.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
High school diploma required; bachelor's degree in social work or related field preferred.
At least 1 year of case management or related experience preferred.
Experience working with refugee or immigrant populations is a plus.
Strong relationship-building, diplomacy, and networking skills.
Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment.
Self-motivated with excellent problem-solving skills and time management.
Attention to detail and accuracy.
Fluent in English; proficiency in other languages spoken by clients (e.g., Spanish, French, Pashto, Dari, Arabic, Swahili) is desirable.
Proficient in Microsoft Office; capable of using digital tools for data entry and research.
Valid driver’s license and access to insured vehicle.
Working Environment: This position involves a mix of office work and community outreach, including meetings with partners. Occasional weekend and evening hours may be required.
