Paralegal – Lawyer Referral and Pro Bono Program The Toledo Bar Association (TBA) is seeking a detail-oriented and client-focused professional to support its Lawyer Referral and Information Service (LRIS)

and

Pro Bono Legal Services Program . This role manages client intake, referral tracking, and case placement, while also assisting with pro bono clinics and supporting volunteer attorneys. The position requires strong communication, organizational skills, and the ability to work effectively with clients, attorneys, and community partners to ensure access to legal services.

Key Responsibilities:

Manage all aspects of the TBA Lawyer Referral and Information Service (LRIS), including attorney panel recruitment, client intake, referral tracking, reporting, and program compliance.

Serve as the primary point of contact for LRIS clients, listening carefully to their concerns, identifying legal issues, and providing clear, professional guidance on program processes and next steps.

Conduct intake and screening for LRIS clients and potential pro bono clients, ensuring accuracy, sensitivity, and confidentiality when gathering personal information and eligibility details.

Coordinate client placement by matching referrals and pro bono clients with panel attorneys, volunteer attorneys, or legal clinics, and provide strong follow-up to ensure smooth transitions.

Build and maintain positive relationships with attorneys by supporting their participation in LRIS and pro bono efforts, responding promptly to inquiries, and assisting with case logistics.

Maintain accurate and up-to-date program databases, tracking client matters, attorney participation, case progress, and outcomes for reporting and evaluation.

Provide administrative and case management support, including preparing correspondence, generating program reports, and monitoring the status of referrals and pro bono cases.

Assist with the planning and delivery of pro bono legal clinics, including volunteer scheduling, client communication, materials preparation, and on-site logistical support.

Collaborate with the Director of Pro Bono Services to ensure alignment between referral and pro bono programs, contributing to efficient use of resources and positive client experiences.

Skills & Qualifications:

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with clients in stressful situations and to build positive relationships with attorneys and volunteers.

Excellent customer service orientation, with the ability to listen, show empathy, and clearly explain program guidelines and processes.

Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks, track case progress, and meet deadlines.

High attention to detail and accuracy in data entry, case tracking, and reporting.

Proficiency with databases and Microsoft Office Suite; experience with case management systems preferred.

Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion when handling sensitive client information.

Prior experience in a legal, social services, or nonprofit setting is a plus.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $44,871.90 - $54,039.28 per year
