Overview

On-Site Part-Time Victim Advocate, Fort Irwin, California. Part-time positions vary in hours from 12–35 hours per week. Flexible schedule is required, with nights, weekends, and some day hours as needed by the installation. More information provided if selected for interview. Responsibilities

Provide crisis intervention and comprehensive services to include emotional support, transportation arrangements; accompany victims to medical, legal and/or law enforcement appointments (when requested); assist in securing protective orders, emergency food and/or shelter, and information benefits. Work directly with victims to ensure needs are advocated and presented to intervening agencies. Assess imminent health and safety risks and make referrals as appropriate. Assist victims in navigating services and refer to appropriate providers for continued care. Ensure victims receive sensitive, confidential, and immediate comprehensive care and treatment needed to restore health and well-being. Perform initial screening, non-clinical risk and lethality assessments, and safety planning with victims. Assist victims in developing safety plans, conduct lethality assessments, provide emotional support, crisis intervention, prevention awareness, and education. Liaise with the installation Family Advocacy Program Manager (FAPM) to coordinate comprehensive victim services and training for victims, family members, Soldiers, and Civilians authorized to receive services at a Military Treatment Facility. Provide crisis intervention and a warm hand-off to community resources for victims not eligible for services through a Military Treatment Facility. Provide information on victim rights, services, and resources available on and off the installation. Coordinate with FAPM to develop procedures that ensure timely and appropriate information for victims of domestic abuse. When contacted by a victim, initiate contact within 20 minutes (phone) or within 60 minutes (face-to-face) when requested. Explain FAP disclosure and reporting options during initial contact to help victims make informed decisions about disclosure. Ensure first responders (Emergency Medical Services, law enforcement, etc.) are contacted immediately in crisis situations with imminent harm. Operate within established guidelines of the FAP and the Victim Advocacy Program, AR 608-18. Conduct domestic abuse training and awareness programs for Soldiers, Family members, and Civilians. Guide client families through the investigative process, encouraging participation and helping them understand their rights as victims of crime. Formulate intervention strategies to improve coping during child abuse investigations and prosecutions; identify and meet the needs of children and families in crisis; educate non-offending caregivers about dynamics and consequences of child abuse. Assess family needs and encourage participation in recommended services and counseling; provide information and assistance with Crime Victims’ Compensation applications. Serve as a liaison between the family and multidisciplinary team members; assist team members in identifying client needs and providing recommendations; represent the child and family’s best interests at team meetings. Accompany non-offending caregivers to court or appointments when requested. Participate in relevant community awareness campaigns and prevention events. Maintain ongoing case management; all data entry must be completed within three business days. Ensure daily contact with a victim in crisis and no less than every 30 days when not in crisis. Upon case completion, transfer the case as appropriate and close the advocacy services with concurrence from the FAPM. Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited school in social/work, psychology, marriage, family, and child counseling, counseling or behavioral science, education, community health or public health. Two years of experience working with victims of domestic abuse/sexual assault or victim advocacy services. Working knowledge of family violence dynamics, safety planning, risk assessments, local resources, and applicable federal and state laws. Ability to intervene in crisis situations with sound professional judgment and ethics; ability to work independently to assess risk and develop safety plans. Demonstrated empathy for victims and ability to develop trusting helping relationships; ability to work with diverse populations. Ability to collaborate with military and civilian medical, social service, law enforcement, and legal personnel on behalf of victims. Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted motor vehicle license and have transportation to transport a victim in crisis (non-emergent) situations as a last resort. Must be able to provide on-call 24/7 victim advocacy services. License and Certifications: as required by role (not specified in the description). General Information
