Requirements

Minimally Required Experience:

Minimum 3 years experience as a Registered Radiologic Technologist. Minimum 1 year experience in a Lead or Supervisor role.

Preferred:

Registered Mammography Technologist (Strongly preferred)

Summary Under the direction of the Manager, and according to established policies and procedures, supervises and coordinates the daily operations in all of the Imaging Service areas. Is the liaison between the Manager and the staff. Schedules all work assignments according to needs. Assist and/or conduct disciplinary actions as needed with employees. Assist with the evaluation and development for purchases of capital equipment and related items.

The Supervisor shall interact with staff, leadership, patients, families, providers and members of the community professionally and in accordance with the Operating Principles of Baystate Health.

Under the supervision of the Radiologist and according to established policies and procedures, operates equipment as required to obtain diagnostic images according to Radiologist specifications; will assist the Radiologist in a wide range of sterile procedures. Responsible for the care and treatment of all age ranges of patients, which may use Imaging Services, to include pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric.

The Supervisor will contribute to preparedness for Joint Commission and DPH surveys, and ACR accreditation. In collaboration with the Manager and Radiologists the Supervisor develops and maintains policies and procedures for the clinical areas of the department.

Job Responsibilities

Directs and supervises Imaging Technologists and ancillary staff involved in the care and performance of Imaging examinations, including exam performance and using RadNet and CIS to clarify orders, ensuring correct exams are performed following approved exam protocols.

Responsible for development and maintenance of staffing schedules for Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, Ultrasound, CT Scan, and Mammography. Includes approval of time-off requests and coverage for unplanned events. Responsible for 24 hour call shared with Manager to respond to issues and concerns regarding patient care and department services. Reviews daily schedule & plans workflow to ensure efficient and timely completion while maintaining continuity of patient care. Adjusts staffing to match daily volumes and productivity.

Collaborates with Clinical Engineering for maintenance and repair of Imaging equipment. Communicates significant problems to Manager and Medical Staff as needed.

Performs all functions related to Kronos timekeeping/payroll including scheduling, variances, transfers and approvals.

Demonstrates integrity and professional demeanor; maintains confidentiality and ethical behavior.

Reviews and adjusts OPPS and coding weekly; assists in revenue and expense monthly.

Oversees orientation and training of new staff and annual competencies. Contributes to development of in-service education programs.

Superuser for Radiology Information System and PACS system.

Participates in hiring, transfers, promotions, termination decisions, and disciplinary actions; contributes to performance evaluations.

Sees department operations in the absence of the manager as needed.

Maintains safe work environment and complies with health and safety requirements; reports accidents and unusual occurrences.

Demonstrates knowledge of development stages for all age groups and applies developmental concepts in care planning and communication.

Reviews authorization and related paperwork to verify exam type and identify contraindicators; ensures appropriate imaging procedures in consultation with nursing, physicians, and radiologists.

Explains procedures clearly to patients and verifies understanding.

Ensures correct image identification and labeling (RT, date, etc.).

Adheres to Confidentiality and HIPAA policies.

Selects appropriate technical parameters to produce diagnostic-quality images; maintains radiation safety and administers contrast materials as needed.
