NeoGenomics is looking for a Histotechnologist who wants to learn to continue to learn in order to allow our company to grow. This is an onsite position with a Tuesday – Saturday, 12:00 pm – 8:30 pm shift.

Position Summary As a Histotechnologist you will be responsible for precisely and accurately performing a variety of routine and specialized histology techniques and procedures. You will also research, troubleshoot, and resolve histology related inquiries and problems within the laboratory. This position requires the production of the highest quality of embedding, microtomy, tissue grossing, tissue processing, H&E staining, manual and automated special staining, immunohistochemistry, and equipment maintenance.

Responsibilities

Receives tissue specimens and ensures proper accessioning and labeling of all tissue samples

Processes paperwork associated with accessioning and reporting

Performs routine and non‑routine activities involved in the preparation of slides for microscopic evaluation by pathologist(s), according to established Standard Operating Procedures

Performs microtomy according to established Standard Operating Procedures

Embeds processed tissue in paraffin wax

Performs coverslipping of stained slides either manually or automated

Performs all special stain procedures according to established Standard Operating Procedures

Performs filing of blocks and slides

Helps maintain acceptable productivity, TAT and workflow

Education, Experience & Qualifications

Bachelor of Science in chemical, biological, or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution. - OR -

Associate of Science in a laboratory science, or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution - OR -

Equivalent education of 60 semester hours with 24 semester hours in biological and chemical science courses. - OR -

Rare acceptance: HS Diploma with ASCP grandfathered HT certification.

At least two years as an ASCP Certified Histotechnologist/Histotechnician preferred

Basic understanding of laboratory techniques

Possesses appropriate computer skills to accomplish tasks

Ability to communicate effectively

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

Ability to work independently

Must be able to work in a fast paced, multi‑tasking environment while maintaining production and quality standards

Must be able to work in a biohazard environment and comply with safety policies and standards outlined in the company’s Safety Data Sheet Database

Good visual acuity including color perception required for certain departments

Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
