Shift: Tuesday-Saturday, 4:00pm-12:30am (subject to change)

Position Summary The Histotechnologist works under general supervision, precisely and accurately performing a variety of routine and specialized histology techniques and procedures. The Histotechnologist will research, troubleshoot, and resolve histology related inquiries and problems within the laboratory. This position requires the production of the highest quality embedding, microtomy, tissue grossing, tissue processing, H&E staining, manual and automated special staining, immunohistochemistry, and equipment maintenance.
Responsibilities
Receives tissue specimens and ensures proper accessioning and labeling of all tissue samples
Processes paperwork associated with accessioning and reporting
Performs routine and non-routine activities involved in the preparation of slides for microscopic evaluation by pathologist(s), according to established Standard Operating Procedures
Performs microtomy according to established Standard Operating Procedures
Embeds processed tissue in paraffin wax
Performs coverslipping of stained slides either manually or automated
Performs all special stain procedures according to established Standard Operating Procedures
Performs filing of blocks and slides
Maintains laboratory in a clean, functional state, as well as cleaning, performing or scheduling equipment and instrument maintenance/calibration/certification, as required. Documents remedial actions such as repairs or repeated tests
Experience, Education and Qualifications
Years of Experience:
Level I: 1+ years as an ASCP Histotechnician/Histotechnologist preferred
Level II: 4+ years as an ASCP Histotechnician/Histotechnologist preferred
Education:
Bachelor of Science in chemical, biological, or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution - OR -
Associate of Science in a laboratory science, or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution - OR -
Equivalent education of 60 semester hours with 24 semester hours in biological and chemical science courses.
Certification:
Nationally: HT (ASCP) or HTL (ASCP)
FL: current state technician or technologist license
Basic understanding of laboratory techniques
Possesses appropriate computer skills to accomplish tasks
Ability to communicate effectively
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to work independently
Must be able to work in a fast paced, multi-tasking environment while maintaining production and quality standards
Must be able to work in a biohazard environment and comply with safety policies and standards outlined in the company\'s Safety Data Sheet Database
Good visual acuity including color perception required for certain departments
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
