We’re looking for a skilled Mechanical Technician to join our engineering team in Newport. This is a hands‑on role supporting the smooth operation of the port’s critical infrastructure.

Responsibilities

Mechanical maintenance, fault finding, and breakdown response across the Newport site.

Working on heavy plant & equipment, cranes, lock gate infrastructure, and bridges.

Ensuring all work is carried out safely and efficiently, with accurate reporting.

Qualifications

NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering.

Proven experience in heavy plant maintenance and repair.

Strong knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics systems.

Comfortable working at height and in confined spaces (e.g., cranes, lock bridges).

Hands‑on approach with excellent fault‑finding and diagnostic skills.

Experience in heavy industry environments such as steelworks, quarries, or manufacturing.

Strong commitment to health and safety practices.

Ability to work independently and as part of a small, close‑knit team.

Hours The shift pattern consists of two alternating weekday shifts: 06:00–14:00 and 14:00–22:00, Monday to Friday. Additionally, there is a one‑in‑six weekend rota covering 06:00–18:00 on both Saturday and Sunday. Weekend hours are compensated as overtime.
